We have to worry about predators from above as much as on the ground here in Alaska so MDH but me a predator proof coop.

Awesome. Do you get bears?

I have a nice yard in the suburbs and I have been wanting chickens. I finally got my husband to build me a small cute coop that will not be an eye sore. It can hold about 5 chickens. We are still adding on the run but this is what we have done so far. Everyone is excited to see the chickens. And I was worried my neighbors wouldn't like the chickens. I will post more pictures when we get more done and I will show the inside. The coop is 3x4 inside with 3 nest boxes on outside. I PLAN ON USING tree branches for roosts.

Very cute! Looks like you have windows. Make sure you have enough ventilation for the coop.
Ventilation is very important, even in an area with a very cold winter, because excess moisture and ammonia is worse than very cold temps!
A lot of people keep the roof soffits at the top of the coop open, and secure them with 1/2" hardware mesh.

Branches as roosts are a great idea. They should be at least 3-4" in diameter as chickens can't grasp branches like other birds. They crouch down on their feet to keep them warm.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your run. I am a back yard chicken keeper too with 4 chickens. It is a blast.

Yes I have lots of ventilation as you can see in this picture of coop under construction we have left under eve's open and both Windows are hardware cloth and I plan on making plexiglass hinged window covers that will prop open might even drill a few small holes close to the floor as well.

The smaller the coop, the more important ventilation becomes which is why I use perforated soffit and have a 12' ceiling. (Lean to on the back of my pole barn) keeping the straw or wood chips policed is also important. I'm looking forward to getting my perches redesigned to keep my nest boxes cleaner.

Excellent! You may not need holes by the floor, as they won't do as much as your soffit/window ventilation up higher (given that the moisture/ammonia rises). Your husband is a good builder!
Last summer was so warm around here, that I ended up cutting a window in my door (already have pop door, open soffits, and another window). I lined the inside with hardware cloth and added a door that flips up. I use a chain on cup hooks to hold my doors open.
I use Stall Dry (feed store) on the floor of my coop (similar to yours) and it also helps absorb extra moisture. I added a removable 2" lip in front of the door to help hold it in. I just use a cat scoop to remove the poops each am; takes about 5 mins.

Well, I never would have thought crows would attack and Cary off a chicken but today there was a flock flying around my house and now my last bantam is gone. I saw some shadows of large birds close to me but never saw the birds. She was running around the yard all morning but tonight she didn't come back :-( looks like my chicken's free ranging days are over :-(

Crows will fly around and attack a hawk. You may never see or hear the hawk. They are incredibly quiet and stealty. But crows will make all kinds of noise if they are near. You may have had a hawk around and the crows were after it and it got your hen.
