post your chicken coop pictures here!

next weekend on sunday.  the 27the.

Oh and for what its worth I googled it....  just typed

When is Easter

in the search bar.

Its amazing how quick you get a simple answer.  Like last night I needed to know how long to cook corned beef in the crock pot.

How long do you cook corned beef in a crock pot

was all I entered

six and a half hours on high... eight and a half on low  and some instructions on how much water to use.  But it was all there in a box at the top of the page

Yeah, i googled the spelling of Araucana so i wouldnt embarrass myself :) i learned as a child that Easter is the first sunday after the first full moon of spring but who keeps up with full moons :) Anyway, thanks for the response. I really enjoy my green eggs and still cant catch the hen doing it so not sure yet which one lays them.

I know this it s coop forum but does anyone know if Easter Eggers are a breed or just one of the colored egg breeds? I have 3 Araucanas that are supposed to lay colored eggs.

EEs are mutts. Pardon the term but they are a mix breed of many different possibilities that can lay anything in the color scale basically. And they will not breed true to the next generation.

Yeah, I mostly said the last bit to make deb feel better lol but it is true. Though sometimes it seems they show sponsored results :/ i wpuld have googled the spelling on both especially americana but was too lazy lol sorry. Anyhow, no problem! I hope you can catch the hen doing it! Either way, green is. nice color :) my pullets themselves are very colorful too. I hope they lay pretty colors and not just brown.

Very true! Mine are mutts but very colorful. I hope they lay colorful eggs too and not just brown

Hey TJ... How are the survivors doing? Has the hubs started working on a replacement coop yet. Maybe the mess isn't even cleaned away yet.

Hey. I checked them all and no burns!!! They must of "flew the coop" at the first sign of fire.

As for cleanup and rebuilding..... Well.... A sudden case of the flu has us on delay.

Araucana are VERY rare, no way you got any from a feed store or big commercial hatchery. They are tailless and have ear tufts (two copies of the ear tuft gene is fatal), no beards or muffs and will lay blue eggs.

The Easter Eggers we have now were the foundation for the Ameraucana. Specifically bred to get repeatable SPECIFIC colors, lay blue eggs, bearded and muffed and other traits. Any "Ameraucana" that isn't sold as one of the APA recognized colors (such as "Wheaten Ameraucana") is an Easter Egger. There are many of us who do not understand why some big commercial hatcheries who sell Easter Eggers as Ameraucana are embarrassed about their birds. EEs are one of the most popular chickens around. Say it with PRIDE - we sell Easter Eggers that will probably lay blue or green eggs. Instead they are pulling a "bait and switch" since they don't have Ameraucanas.

If the chicks were chipmunk, they are NOT Ameraucana.

If your hens are laying green you are guaranteed they are neither Araucana nor Ameraucana but Easter Eggers. They have the blue egg gene and a brown egg gene. If you look at the inside of the shell it will be blue. The brown coloring on eggs is "washed on" a white shell just prior to laying but blue eggs are blue all the way through. So a green egg is actually a BLUE egg with an added brown "wash".
