Another good source for materials is Garage doors.... Usually you can get them from companies that replace wooden ones. Think about it .... eight by sixteen FEET of Plywood on a structure. Only issue is getting them home.

I can get single doors on my truck because they are eight feet long.... So I figure I could cut a double in half.

so cool. I love the egg rack.

TY! I looked at so many egg racks/skelters/dispensers before settling on this YIXIN from Amazon. It's extremely lightweight plastic, cheap price, easy to assemble, all egg sizes fit well in it, I love green, and I got to choose how many rows I wanted to add to the skelter. It comes with 8 sections and I used only 5 pieces and can add the other 3 sections/pieces later if I need them. Some people painted these after assembly in colors they preferred!

Now why does that remind me of Michael Jackson?

Oh... That's why.

That would be quite handy ... if we didn't have 3 house cats that would delight in seeing if those "balls" are fun to chase.

Cats! I know they'd play with those eggs - uh-huh! We have a small cottage so had to decide on having one dog, or one cat, or 5 hens (zone limit) but not all these animals at once since not all dogs or cats are good around hens. DH had dogs and cats before but never chickens so that's how the journey began 6 yrs ago with chickens and no dog or cat! We've cycled through 14 chickens in 6 yrs and down to 3 birds now after some losses or re-homing. Perhaps we should've stayed with just the one dog or the one cat instead LOL!

Our 3 hens taking shelter under the coop patio roof during the rain.

It's raining, it's pouring, it's FLOODING! In sunny California! Didn't we just finish having a heatwave?

At least we can collect eggs from the nestbox without getting soaked!

Great job....
Please when you get a chance give that OSB several coats of waterproof paint.
Fixed that for ya.

Gov "Moonbeam" Jerry Brown is hesitating calling the drought officially over. Could've fooled me with the swimming hole forming in our backyard! Our chickens love sprinkly days but they were hiding from the deluge that came down all this week. We went right from a heatwave Summer directly into Winter and missed the Fall season changes completely. I've lived in California all my life and this is so typical. Several years of drought, then one or two years of heavy winter rains, maybe a day or two of light snow dusting on our neighborhood (we live at the bottom of the San Gabriel mountains). Then the Spring will rain/sprinkle every other week or so for a month or two but usually nothing heavy and then the heatwaves start around July through to Nov. Last year our heatwave started early in May and lasted into Nov non-stop -- we should only get 3 maybe 4 weeks of 100oF temps but last year it was non-stop for months. With the heavy rains we're finally getting perhaps our Summer this year will start later and milder hopefully. Our years seem to go in cycles -- several drought years and then a rainy year -- and occasionally a freezing overnighter at around 30 to 32o but only if the snow level in the mtns behind us reaches down to the 1000 ft level. All the preparation we did for any rainy weather didn't help much in the backyard -- the chickens were dry in their coop area or under our patio roofs but the yard was a solid pool and we didn't dare "walk on water" for fear of getting stuck in it.

My garden bed produces for us through Summer well into Feb and Mar of the next year usually.

But the rain is ruining anything green in the yard! It's a good thing the patios are raised higher than the backyard or the house would be flooded. Some Calif communities are experiencing flooding or mudslides into their homes.

@Sylvester017

When you had your back yard redone with the brick wall and all.... did they make sure your swale was graded properly?

Even though most years we dont get rain... We do get it in gully washers.... With My previous house they had allowed the hill behind to erode and fill the swale so the only place where the water could go was up against the stucco. Big time water damage in one room.

But If the grade doesnt allow the water to flow away and toward drainage your yard becomes a big swimming pool.
