post your chicken coop pictures here!

Nice open front design. How do you keep the chickens out of the duck's pond? Be aware that the gate will serve as as nice perch for the chickens. I figured a 4' fence would keep them in. It does, it keeps them in the area on which ever side THEY choose!

I just calculated all my costs to build and supply my new chicken coop.
1. electrical (includes automatic coop door) $151.00
2.chicks and supplies (6 Americana's and 6 Wellsummers)
(waters, feeders, feed, etc.) $200.00
3.Coop $1700
4. Chicken run $575.00
Total : $2636.00!

Really nice. Don't calculate the 'cost per egg', some things are best left unknown

With your costs, I would have just hit $1/egg a few months ago but that would be excluding the cost of electricity, feed, scratch and shavings.

I've got 5 chickens and used scrap wood to make my coops. I've spent a total of maybe $200 for everything including the feed, price of chickens themselves, feeder, waterer. We are hard pressed for $ since i can't work and so you get very desperate to make it work lol. That's great to have the freedom with more money:)

Thanks for the comments and advice, all of which are taken seriously as we're still in the guessing & experimenting phase

As for the fencing, well, 2" x 4' was a good idea at the time, except we've had to add strands of wire to the bottom few lines, as the 2 PITA Midget Chooks kept escaping and as those two move like a scalded cat, its hard to catch them

Our birds are only out when we're home and also we have a rather large doofus er sorry Coon Hound / Shepherd, 2 Poodles & 2 cats that are always on patrol in the area, and I'm (Bex) is home all day. 2 doors down have Chooks & Ducks as well, and their garden is far more wooded than us (we're very lucky being at the top of the hill) and their flock wander around freely and is still intact

As for the Chooks going paddling, yes they get wet occasionally, 9 / 10 times they flutter out the pool, but, I have had to dash across garden to fish one out, but right now its working fine

also the doofus goes beserk around the chickens (the ducks dont phase her at all strangely) so, even though Katie (aka doofus, dopey, stooopid, dog etc etc) has a lead that stops short of the pen, the girls stay put........ that said, is thus far

We still have a couple of tweeks to sort during the summer, those being electrics and watering along with a storm shutter type thingy for the wire front of the coop.

any one have a full coop you can stand up in with covered run then a part not covered, I want dh to do one but can not get the ide into his head, we can not free range as we have one mean man next door and he would kill them, I want a run to leave food and water in plus if it rains they are not cooped in just the coop, we already have one coop made from old camper and want him to add run to it also.

I can't stand in my coop but I can in the run and it is covered in fencing. Off the back of the coop I have extended it to make a sort of lean-to. I keep the food and water out there and also a place for the chicks to sit in the shade.

That being said. Think of the years and years that this coop will last. Good job.

New coop built by the kids in the local high school wood shop as a project. Roof in the back lifts up to access nesting boxes. Space on side is supposed to be for flowers but I will use it to keep 5 gallon buckets of feed. They did a great job.
