They run under the coop if they sense danger. They also use it as shade, actually I think under the coop is their favorite place. I only hope they don't start laying under there, would involve some crawling and a rake lol. I do need to put some things in there to keep them occupied just not sure what yet. I try to let them out everynight for a bit and on the weekends.Don't just knock on wood. Lay down some wood! Ha! Give them some brush or branches or hiding places in your run. They scurry to safety trying to get under something if they see an aerial predator, so give them that "bunker". Could save a life.

mine all go under the camper which is their coop I think they are there more then in the yard, we have started a new coop as we have 20 more peeps to house, when the new one is done we are just going to open gate and let them go to new one which is going to have a run with it, then we will work on old yard to be fixed and the coop will be cleaned real good.They run under the coop if they sense danger.
