I will be building a Purina coop all by myself too, so nice to see it can be done without the help of DH. HeMine is a work in progress. I primed the trim boards a few days ago and it has rained ever since. The trim will be the same color as the 2 x 4's on the roof. I need to make the big door on the side and the slim door on the front where I can remove the poop board. The idea was from the Purina mills plans, but I made it 4 x 6 and then made it a bit taller. I did not go directly by the plans but just used it as a guide. Edited to say, I am a women that is not an experienced builder. I built the roof separate and the only help I had was when my husband helped me lift the roof on. There are mistakes, but I just keep telling myself, "it's just a chicken coop", but I wanted something cute for my babies!

Hey Joe, Where are you from? I saw snow in your pictures and just wanted to know where you are from and if you use any heating for the chickens or water bowls and what breeds that you have that are very cold hardy? Thanks
This is my favorite by far! Those little egg door are way to freakin cute.Coop in a sheltered corner of the garden.
recycled concrete path and lawn boarder leading to the coop
the old fence boards are decoration. the hardware cloth extends a foot and a half underground I have no floor. I used pvc as posts to prevent rot
Water and nest access from the outside
My feeder, access from the outside
Secure run, with plexiglass roof 6' x 4' they have access to and 60 sq ft of uncovered run and a tractor during the day. I just cleaned it, normally I have lots of compostables, yard trimmings cut grass leaves etc, and put down a little sod I cut out to make another garden bed.
view of feeder and waterer
nest boxes above the feeder and waterer so they can 't poop in them. There is enough roost space above the nestbox height in the A-frame, so chickens can get up high out of the wind if there is any. We seldom have frost so I am not concerned about heat. I had to put the screen above the boxes so that I don't have any hard surface they can poop on

I will be building a Purina coop all by myself too, so nice to see it can be done without the help of DH. He
built (with me as his able helper) a terrific coop over the winter, but it is now time for coop #2 and he wants no part of it.
He's not being mean, just not his thing. Here's a pic of the one we made before it was totally finished ...
I am doing something similar, but not made out of shipping crates this time. I want the freedom to do what I want without having to go by the size of the crates. At least 4 x 8 (this one is 4 x 5.5), but would really prefer 8x8 to tell you the truth.
