post your chicken coop pictures here!

Chicken jails or "henitentiaries" are a must.  Ours is indoors for housing problem hens until we can re-home them or for watching a sick or injured chicken.  How fancy to have a cupola.  Is it open to the air outside?  How do you keep out windy rain in those things?
We are using louvered vents in our cupola, the roof of it does extend out over so hopefully the rain won't get it. This is a lot of trial and error for us!

Very nice neatly built ladder.  We built one for our hens and even the Silkies don't use it. Mine all prefer to jump or fly up to their roosts.
Thank you! These girls have no idea what to do with the ladder, they all flew up to the roost tonight. None of them would use the ladder to go into the coop either, I had to put them all in while my husband guarded so they didn't come back out. They were not happy about their strange new surroundings but I hope with time they learn to love it.

That's my advice also..could never get the hang of the heavy duty staples that you nail in... Have drill........with bits ...it will get screwed into place and will not come out of place...worth collecting your pennies to make happen

When we first got our coop we had the chickens inside it for a month - no free-ranging during that time. No problem with them using the coop to lay eggs or roost now. After being in it 24/7 they got used to all the sections of the coop and what to use them for.

unfortunately for our chickens there are 2 loose pitbulls that came to visit last week so they are going to be locked in the coop until further notice. I guess it was all perfect timing!

Syl, to get the chickens to use the "ramp" I sprinkled scratch the full length of the ramp.... they followed the scratch up and down the ramp... add some scratch when they are on the roost...

Hope you didn't loose any ladies !! I had a coyote pack visit me back in the summer..lost 9 ! Broke my heart..Make sure your run (if you have a run) is Ft.Knox predator safe as well as the coop..You have to think like a predator....get down on their level.. With pitbulls, I might would put an electric wire around the base or about a foot up, or their noses/paws....light them up and you will hear them yelp!!

This is my coop, I live in bc, close to delta bc. We rarely experience temps below freezing and summer is coming to an end. With a few adjustments im interested in any thaughts for winterizing. I have air flow boarded at the bottom, have plans to tarp the roof as its not 100% waterproof. Is it necessary to have an enclosed area for them? Or can I drape a thin blanket over their roosting area....to the left? I have 2 white sussex & 2 rhode reds.....the youngest is soon to lay the rest are older and already do.
any Ideas greatly appreciated :)))))
