Yeah my chickens love the Honey dew as well as watermelon and cantaloupe and they even eat the rinds some times just be careful on how much you give them If you give them to much it will give them the diarrhea "I actually stopped giving them the guts and only rinds because I think it contributed to the diarrhea". And you can refrigerate and or freeze the melon to preserve it and the chickens like the cold melon on hot days.Awwwww... My girls are in honeydew heaven right now... I cut a honey due and cantaloupe up last night and saved the guts.... They are now being enjoyed by my feathered friends.....happy chickens yeah!!!! Now... My question... Can I give them the rinds off of those fruits as well and what about pineapple? I'm going to grab a head of cabbage to hang up later today for them to play with.... I think they are going through a mini-molt so I'm trying to up their vitamin and protein intake to help them along...![]()

I am afraid my chickens have become spoiled they like there food in smaller slices so they can eat it easier when the lettuce is in big chunks they kinda give me a upset look and it takes them longer to eat it all.
Ive always been told never to give your chickens citrus fruit so pineapple is a quandary for me because even tho Pineapple is a fruit and super high in citric acids, it is not a citrus fruit. So I am not 100% sure if you can give your chicken pineapple but I would not take the risk.

Here is a list on what you can feed your chickens. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chicken-treat-chart-the-best-treats-for-backyard-chickens
I hope this comment helps, and I look forward to hearing how much your chickens liked the hung cabbage.
I READ THAT SOME FRUIT SEEDS ARE BEST NOT SERVED UP TO CHICKENS EITHER LIKE APPLE, PEAR, ETC AND DEFINITELY NO CITRUS FRUITS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF PLANTS/SEEDS/FRUITS THAT ARE TOXIC: http://www.poultryhelp.com/toxicplants.html#P
I'M ALSO DISAPPOINTED THAT I CAN'T PLANT SOME BULB FLOWERS AROUND CHICKENS EITHER. I'LL HAVE TO STICK WITH THORNY ROSE OR BERRY BUSHES WHICH ARE SAFE.
