Another 8 hour day. Weather was good enough today, will be awful for the next week. Trimmed the outside back wall and front wall. Trimmed front two side windows and front giant open window. Devil wire cloth on all windows. (Stupid stuff) and built the pop door and trimmed and hooked it up. Big door. Tired of watching orpingtons squeeze through tiny holes.

with all this snow is driven us crazy and the chickens to, some days we could not leave them out, thank god we have a big camper coop, but monday we found mold in the back, here water has been coming down the inside of the wall to the insulation, so we have to get chickens out of there, went and got another camper which don't have the door in the back and is solid, i have it all fixed and ready nests are in, floor is fixed with chips, now we have to but tires back on old coop so we can pull it out and put new one in, we are going to put fence up in middle to cut yard in half, i got a delaware blue roos and 2 hens, have not been able to bring them home till we fix things, we also have a rir roos which is why we are going to have 2 yards and we have 2 coops, we will put fence in the middle temp till ground gets soft to put up good fence, we have to take fence down to pull camper out put we do not have to remove the posts from ground. we will spilt the hens up and put the black sexlicks in with delaware blues, also have 2 white odd hens that will go in that will leave all red sexlicks and rir hens and rir roos, in other one. snowing again we are going to get 6" on top of the old snow which did not melt.

that is why we are moving slow, dh is 84 so we take it as we can, but we do have to get them out of there as soon as we can, then we have to figure out what we are going to do with camper once it is out. the yard will be cut the short way across the yard we will have to paint the new coop to match the one dh made this summer, as i said fence across we had to take the run we had in the middle out, the chickens could run from one to the other coop, they loved it.. we do have 43 hens plus the 1 roos then 3 hens and one roos at friends house to come home.

Hi all! Just wanted to post my pics and get some feedback. The coop has been modified from a quail coop. Its 8' long by 2' wide with about 30" floor to ceiling. The 3 roosts are 2" b 4"s and are 12 inches apart and they are 10.5" from the bare floor. The roosts are about 22" long. There are four doors that open and two windows. The windows have 1/4 inch hardware cloth behind them and the long bottom door is for cleanup access with floor boards that are removable. We have 6 RIR hens that are four days old in a brooder. I wish the coop was a foot wider but I have to work with what I've got due to cost. The enclosure will go between the three fences shown and will be 11.5' by 6.5'. The enclosure will have 1/2 inch hardware cloth on top and in the front. There will be a framed door in front that will have a latch. The coop will be placed inside the enclosure on the left side.

12" between roosts might not be enough since they can pick on one another. IIRC, 18" is recommended for full size fowl. Looks like you could move the closest one farther from the middle with no trouble at all. Possibly push the far one a bit as well. Nest box plans?

Thanks! I will move the roosts. Only one screw holding them down. As for nest boxes at this point I plan on using two home depot buckets. They wedge perfectly width wise. I would put a threshold on them to hold bedding and cut an access hole in the back of them. They would be in the end opposite the opening on the coop. So on the left end. I also have other pics here

I have seen people use those buckets before and they seem to like them I use wash bins I get for 1.97 Your coop looks nice and moving the roost as suggested seems like it would work really well good luck with you brood

Do you think three 22" roosts is enough for 6 RiR's they would have to double up. Hope they all get along well enough
