post your chicken coop pictures here!

Hi Sylvester, I was told the little gray ones were Bantam's. I got one Leghorn two Plymouth Rocks the two black ones are a mix breed. The two reddish ones I'm not sure also got two smaller reddish ones that I'm not sure of. Got 12 hens and 1 rooster 13 total.

Is the roo a bantam or large fowl? If he's a LF he might be too rough/heavy on the bantam hens.

I got the big poo off my one hen today, I picked her up and just kept working it back and forth till it came off, someone had told me to give her a bath to take it off but it is to cold for that, I asked the man I got my blue hens from and he said he also did not like putting her in water this time of year he told me to just take one part at a time till it make loss then go to another, I did what he told me and it was off in no time, I bet she has a sore rear as it just hug there, was so big. he did say if you have to use water put her head in a pillow case.

When gunk gets into my Silkie crests or around their fluffy vents I use a warm wet washcloth to work out the hard stuff. The moisture really helps to get the hard stuff softened without having to dunk the whole chicken in water. During hot weather we bathe them outside, or else take them into the house on cold days and use a dish tub in the bathtub to shampoo their vents with baby shampoo. Then towel dry well (we like paper towels industrial strength) and then blow dry. Chickens seem to like the low blow dryer on their feathers.

We built our coop from mostly recycled materials, save for a few sheets of plywood. I was especially happy with how my 'pallet siding' turned out. It has a large run off of the back and houses 15 chickens, an assortment of heritage breeds

Thank you for the warm welcome Deb! I love San Diego, and have a lot of family there. I'm in British Columbia, Canada...still chilly mornings here for that cup of Joe on the deck lol

I will bet its still a bit chilly there... LOL.

we finally got our serving of rain and are up to the annual rainfall... still not enough. spring here starts around February and the hills are green now. Which lasts about a month.... sigh. I havent been up to my house in the desert yet after the rains. By now the Belly flowers will be blooming.

My neighbor calls em belly flowers because you have to lay on your belly to see em. Gold first then purple then the desert chaparal finally wakes up and blooms like crazy.

Belly flowers

when you get really close they are about the size of the eraser on a pencil and perfect little daisys... Smell sweet too

The little purple ones are about the same size but they are star shaped with teeny yellow centers.

When my mother first moved here from North Dakota, she complained that the mountains & trees were blocking the view. Took her years to figure out the mountains & trees were the view. Though there's nothing quite like watching other people's storms from a high spot in an otherwise long, flat view.

Isn't it amazing the different opinions and views people have of things? Where I grew up, it was in a valley in the mountains. The mountains surrounded the entire city like a ring. I now live near the top of one of the mountains and I've always thought to myself that I could never live somewhere flat. I need my mountains! Lol

I would love a place to sit and relax. To bad the stupid rooster attacks me any time I go near... It runs from my husband but attacks me and the kids... They can't even go out any more to help without fear of that bird... He's to old to change his ways... My husband says it's good that he protects the ladies. But NOT from me you evil bird... I want to get a diffrent one to change out but my husband says they will all be like that... I've seen some very gentle ones and some beasts... How do I convene him to get a new one and put this guy where he belongs... IN THE FREEZER!!!! :cd
