I usually lay a 2x4 between the roll and the straightened part, makes it a lot easier since it keeps the roll stationary. If you need to do large portions, I suggest cutting the wire with an angle grinder, it's a lot quicker than using some sort of cutters. Also, pushing a stick into the hardware cloth roll keeps it from untangling and from rolling. Small tips and tricks.

My brother just bought a new angle grinder, I might just have to borrow it sometime.

I had to remove a cracked egg from my hens nest today. It looks like another hen put an egg Into her nest on top of one of my control eggs... Thank God it wasn't one of the 3 older eggs.

Thanks! She is by far the best chick in the flock She poo-picked the coop this morning and asked if that could be her job every day, which I was more than happy to agree with! We'll see how long it lasts...

Thank you for all the advice guys! I'll definitely be taking it on board when it comes to making improvements. I did originally plan to have the coop outside the run, the original plan was to buy a cheap coop online and have a pop hole in the side of the run to attach the two, so hubby started to build the run panels and then i changed my mind and decided to use the playhouse. It worked out that the panels were too small to easily attach to the coop without buying more timber and wire and we didn't have anymore money spare, so we just kinda threw it all together with little planning and came up with this! It's working well at the moment but it is going to be a pain cleaning under the thing and walking through chicken poop every morning to fetch the eggs! So when we have the funds I'll try to shake it up a bit and make it better

Ok... I think I'm going to modify an old dog crate into a brooding/hatchery pin... I'm thinking 2' tall chicken wire around say a 5' x 8' area with a tarp covering for the broody mom and (hopefully) new chicks can have a safe run that's next to the bigs will work... If they hatch I'm looking a at 3 babies... Maybe 4... Now, what I need is advice on weather I should cover the dog crate turned nesting box on 3 sides and weather it should be raised off the ground.... I fear the hatchlings will be hurt in the relatively small coop with the bigs so I need to move them before the hatch....

And remember, different blades are good for different purposes. For the wire, you can use the super thin and cheap ones. You can also cut plastic with one, and other materials.
