I just love your adorable coop! Looks like a dollhouse! I am soon going to be adding on to mine. Gonna give my girls their very own powder room

luxurious laying space/cabin and also a maternity wing to keep mommas and baby chickies separate from the big chicks. Some people think I'm crazy because of the things I do for my chick chicks

I really cant help with your run issue. Its a problem for a lot of people. I will say that open top even with the netting will be easy pickings for four footed predators.(fox, coyote etc.) For that reason I made our run wood frame, long and narrow with a removable top that slides off so I could stand inside and clean. Not ideal but seems to work. Good luck :)

ChickenFever, That's crazy. I'm really glad to be finding out now instead of learning the hard way later. We do close our girls up in the coop at night, so if something did get in there, it would need to be during the day for it to get the chickens. Well, darn. We did so much work building that run with the hardware cloth - digging out the ground and all. I wonder if there is some way I can adapt it to have a roof... back to brainstorming.

Chyna, gosh, that sucks to have a whole family of hawks living in your yard! Sorry to hear that your chickens can't free range.

Thanks to those who liked my coop! :)

Here's a couple of pics of the coop we built this spring. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

And Yes, that's my wife sitting inside the run.....I don't keep her out there all the time........we swapped what turned out to be a rooster for a new younger bird, and she was giving her cuddles in her new home.

Thanks for your response, ChickenFever. I'm surprised to hear that foxes can get into open-top runs. Clearly, I still have a lot to learn. We don't have coyotes where I live, but we have plenty of foxes, so I do want to be prepared for them. The hardware cloth is almost 4 ft high, with about 6-8 inches buried under ground and a brick ring around the bottom.. so I doubt anything will be able to dig underneath.. I was honestly only concerned about keeping chickens in and hawks out of the top, but maybe that was naive of me..
You know, the top doesn't really need to be all that sturdy....more of a deterrent than anything.......I'm thinking an option might be to get a couple of longer poles, and hang some kind of netting, joining the bottom of the netting to the top of your fencing?

It would look almost like those tents you see used for weddings and such.

It would keep your birds in, and most enemies (definitely all hawks) out, I would think.

Just a thought.

I like this idea. It's *kind of* what we started doing - draping from the tree and roof top - but we could do this in a more substantial manner if we planted some poles as you suggest. We could also use a netting that is more substantial than aviary netting.

Your coop is great! I'm inside mine all the time. My husband has been inside only to make some modifications. He likes the chickens but I'm the keeper of the coop. He looked cute in there and wanted to pet the girls. I told him to feed the mealworms. He had them eating out of his hand. Oh if his brother could see him now.
