Very nice looking set up you have there! I'm sure your chickens appreciate it all too! You're gonna love that automatic door so you don't have to worry about letting them out or locking them in at night to protect from predators! Just think... you and your handyman will be able to go out to dinner and a few drinks and not worry about chickens!![]()
So is anyone tempted to put some parakeets or finches in their chicken run ??? All that 1/2'' by 1/2'' wire cloth makes it little bird safe.
Parakeets are bullies.... I used to raise both... in separate cages Hook bills are gnawers and biters of toes if they can get away with it. I would do finches though... and button quail... Oh and canaries. here in San Diego all of them can be raised outside in open air aviaries year round. I did put up a heat lamp and wind break incase they needed a warmer spot to roost. WE do get down to the 30s in the wintertime.
They have different feed needs though. The quail can eat the same as the chickens but finches need small thistle and millet style seeds. Parakeets eat Proeseo white millet.... The guineas would mess with them to get at it.... LOL.
They mess around and spill seed which the chickens would clean up.... I used to use regular wild bird feeders for my Finches...

I wont doing cage birds within my run.... I might do some in the Green house room though. I was responding to another post. My run will have aviary netting on it.... 2.5 inch spaces... Just to keep my poultry in and to keep flying predators out...
And Yep hanging feeders....
