post your chicken coop pictures here!

Well I hope you have him for many years to come! Many of ours made it into their teens (my Mastiff is 6 now and I feel the same way as I cram all the joint meds and salmon oil and other good stuff I can into his food).
I had a Newfie/chow chow mix who lived to be 17 and he was a medical disaster so I have the hope of many more years with Willie. We take 4-5 mile hikes a couple of times a week and his joints are great but I know a little about his history and genetics and it's not so great. He's also allergic to everything which has been our biggest challenge so far but if that's the extent to his health problems from here on out then I'm thrilled to pieces.

This thread is a serious time suck, and a joy to behold! I've had so much fun looking at all the coops and gleaning ideas for mine. Makes me impatient for it to arrive!!!!
I know what you mean! All this eye candy is making it difficult to settle on certain features for finishing my own coop but then again, I think there will always be room for improvement.

Yes. Always room for improvement ... though since my tendonitis is so bad I can't really use power tools anymore (which is EXTREMELY irritating, let me tell you!), I'm aiming to get as much right the first time as possible. Any improvements will likely require me cajoling my dad or a friend into doing the work, which makes me feel guilty since I know how to do it. But when Dad left me the last section of fence to do on my own, I leaned real quick that some tools are just not my friend these days.

I'm mostly thinking over ways to drape bird netting over the whole 10'x25' garden plot next to the coop and run so that the chickens can free range without me having to worry too much about them escaping over the fence or attracting my neighborhood red tailed hawk.

I ended up replacing the siding on my project coop due to trouble with tools. When I bought the coop (was an ice fishing shanty) it had corrugated metal siding. I bought a drill attachment that's made for cutting corrugated metal but that tool and I did not see eye to eye, not that it didn't cut well...I just couldn't seem to get straight cuts so I just tore off all the siding and replaced it with wood which is what I preferred anyway.

The bird netting has been working great for me this year (though my flock doesn't spend too much time in the coop/run area). I bought 2 14'x14' pieces to cover a 12'x24' area and secured it to the fencing with zip ties. There's a little overlapping but it's holds up really well. The human door to the coop gets caught on it every time I open it and I'm shocked that the netting hasn't torn. The only thing I don't like about it is that any leaves or twigs that fall onto it get tangled when I try removing them and fall hasn't even set in yet so I know it's going to drive me crazy soon.

Thought I'd share...NO!..my dh didn't get my run done yesterday but with the heat index at 100 degrees...I didn't want him to be out there...he already has a heart condition and is only 67...I do want him around for many more years..I'll get the run done !! I didn't get a lot done yesterday either. Today, I have at least put on two latches on my run people door. Going to go get up another wire panel or two..depends on heat! But last night after I had closed my girls up I looked back and my nosy EE had already gotten up on the roost watching me as I left. She keeps an eye on everything. The motion light had not gone out yet (takes a few min). I took a couple of picts. Can you see her peaking...just over the welcome sign? LOL And yea, I have to get the wire over the ventilation asap..got the back done..got a lot I want to do on the inside..

She gets her place on the roost before any of the others are allowed to get up there. !! I always laugh because there is a fight for position every night... except for her....! LOL... The others are all the same age..young. She should be a layer at anytime!! She seems to be the mother/protector all rolled into one.

Cool! This is pretty much what I'm planning to try. Thanks for the tips.
