I got little white bags that say mouse away, they claim the mice will not come in near it, I keep my feed in a small shed. just lay the bay behind the feed and it works.@rubie , you're making me blushI did notice a flaw though, there's some mouse poop accumulating around the feed bins. They can't get into them, but that doesn't stop them from trying. I'm going to put in some rodent netting, I have a roll of it in the shed. But that's a "when I get around to it" thing.![]()
That is my biggest oops here too. I thought my 2x10 room would be fine until I realized half had to remain empty for passage.Don't forget: broom, dust pan, diatomateous earth, scissors, place for heat lamps, medicine...ug and more. I have most of the chickining supplies together but not all. I didn't think about storage when designing coop but there are really great ideas on here and wonderful people who take the time to share with us. I love BYC !!
Thought I'd share...NO!..my dh didn't get my run done yesterday but with the heat index at 100 degrees...I didn't want him to be out there...he already has a heart condition and is only 67...I do want him around for many more years..I'll get the run done !! I didn't get a lot done yesterday either. Today, I have at least put on two latches on my run people door. Going to go get up another wire panel or two..depends on heat! But last night after I had closed my girls up I looked back and my nosy EE had already gotten up on the roost watching me as I left. She keeps an eye on everything. The motion light had not gone out yet (takes a few min). I took a couple of picts. Can you see her peaking...just over the welcome sign? LOL And yea, I have to get the wire over the ventilation asap..got the back done..got a lot I want to do on the inside..
She gets her place on the roost before any of the others are allowed to get up there. !! I always laugh because there is a fight for position every night... except for her....! LOL... The others are all the same age..young. She should be a layer at anytime!! She seems to be the mother/protector all rolled into one.
Well the cupola is up and we just had a really hard blowing rain and the coop is dry, yay!A lot of coop plans and pre-built coops have cupola options and I just wondered how they kept out the elements. Good luck!
That is really looking awesome mamaJ! Those yellow signs against the darker wood background simply glowI bet your girls can hardly wait to get out there and scratch around in that run you're building them too.![]()
My Q/comment regards that roost... since the birds have to fly up to get on it (or is there a ladder/ramp?), it seems awful close to the ceiling... As it appears above, they can't even stand up straight without hitting their heads... Maybe lower it about 6 inches? I know my birds like to stand tall and stretch/flap their wings on the roosts.
Keep on truckin' it's coming along great!
Actually there are 3 roosts at different levels...4 counting the nest board.. The coop isn't but 5' tall at best...down to 4'.. They get on this roost at the lower point and walk up.. LOL... The only one who is really big for that end is the nosy one. I think she goes up there just to see what I'm doing. :yiipchick Most of them stay at the other end which is probably at least 6" lower.. I cut down those young trees, drug them up from the back of our lot.....holding on to them with my car door open! I'm telling you,,this whole process would have won me a $100,000 on AFV's
