I don't think its going to get changed...not at this point anyway. I'm going to temporarily cover with a tarp on the south end and start covering with chicken wire from the coop end. Some how, I'm going to pop that pop door for my ladies this weekend if I have to sit out there and babysit them!!

They have waited long enough! and may I say...I like the crudeness also....therefore it really does have a LOT of character!!

I had to laugh out loud when I read your original post about the reciprocating saw! I call it the sword saw from hell !!! When I borrowed my BIL sword saw to cut my pophole I couldn't believe how fast it gets out of control! My pop hole is a tad "curvy" but the wood trims covered most of it...aaack!!
rant.gif

When it came time to cut the window opening I told BIL "you gotta make that cut...no way am I going to attempt to cut that big a hole and hope it's straight!!" He came over and did it for me...thank God!
That's the only thing I have used a jigsaw on...and yep...it was crooked but the frame that covered it up.. almost did that one 2x also. Not that I could redo the hole but I put the window in with the hinges at the bottom the first time..LOL...However,,,the good part was that I was able to add a piece of hardware cloth between the window and exterior wall. I then went inside and added a 2nd layer .

Ours is still under construction but should be done by Sunday. Here are the plans for the coop and the nesting boxes. It will have a flat slanted roof so the rain goes in the back. will have an outdoor egg collection door also. I'm excited to do this, This will be the first time without my Husbands help. He is biting his fingernails lol. Keeps wanting to help.

Will post pictures once completed!

My house contractor has a lot of sub-contractors that he will recommend to me and reasonable.  I don't want to bash people who use Craigslist but I personally prefer not to use it and rather go with people I know.  But thanks for the input!

No worries. I'm just lucky as all the coops I liked on my local Craigslist are by a guy who also happens to breed rare/heritage poultry (so he knows what needs to go into a workable coop for our local climate).

Cause the hourly rate for the construction guys I know is waaaay beyond my means, LOL!

Oh, and if he's got that coop done yet, you can tell him that my football team, Grand Valley State University, AKA, the place where Brian Kelly at Notre Dame used to coach at, went out last night, shot themselves in the foot all night, failed to capitalize on a few mistakes and then ended up losing 26-23 in double OT out in LA. Not that its going to make him feel any better, but I need to vent a little. Somebody post a happy chicken picture!

If your egg collection box is positioned/located on the exterior part of the coop with a lift-up lid you could attach an awning over the box or extend the roof line over the box to protect it from rain when you open the lid. We learned the hard way! Wet nestbox bedding is a health hazard. Drop down lids are a little better but an awning or popup canopy over a little coop is a real help during rain because sometimes it's not convenient to wait all day for rain to stop when there are eggs to collect!
