post your chicken coop pictures here!

This is my first time being a chicken mom! My boyfriend made me this coop. Its Mobil on wheels. I'll be housing 4 buff brahamas

Mine isn't quite on the level with most of these but it works. Was intended to house 6-8 bantams then i found out i could only have 4 birds total on my property and somehow i have ended up with 10 full size birds so oh well close enough. These first two pictures are from the chicks first night in the coop and it's a view looking through the window into the coop. This whole project was so as my daughter grows up she can have pets and learn about nature and food so i wanted to make sure she could walk out to the coop and look in at the birds if she wants to check on them.

Can't tell from photos but does your pen have bird netting over it? My 7-lb Marans easily flew out of a 7-ft tall enclosure. We got a big roll of bird netting from Lowe's - it comes in all sizes and does a good job of keeping out the lice-infested wild birds out of the pen.
Put a bench or a plywood plank on cinderblocks in the pen so the hens have a place to snooze/hide under during midday. Hens spend all their time outside the coop except to lay their eggs or roost and they love little hiding places.
I hope your DD has many years to enjoy her chickens. I loved growing up on a farm with livestock!

Ok guys... Something tells me that I need to kick my husband in the can.... His idea of putting the dog near the chicken run has resulted in something strange....

My dog has become a big chicken lol....

It's ok if the dog THINKS he's a chicken and doesn't EAT the chickens! One BYCer had their dog and cat friendly with chickens for 7 years and then came home one time to find the pets had broken into the chicken pen and killed all the flock - so sad!

What a nice BF! Jazzy design!
Don't know your dimensions but Brahmas can get up to 9-lb hens and you'll need to be moving that tractor around lots to keep them busy - or else provide some daily backyard open free-range time for the hens. That's a nice tractor for 2 hens but 4 large dual purpose birds may require more space for foraging.
Brahmas are beautiful birds and gentle for LF. Post some pics of your birds in their new digs!

Good thing our chickens don't become dogs... though having had my backyard flock for only two days (9 week old hens) it definitely seems they enjoy doing the same things... such as eating stuff that makes you go "what..." and digging holes.

lol. I know right.... :lau

I just found one of my girls named Daisy May, snuggled up next to the dog to protect herself from the wind... I have got to get that new coop built fast...
We will be building a better fence as well... Then I'll just let the dog lose and not on the worthless chain she's on... Worthless because it was suppose to prevent her from jumping that fence to get in the run lol...

LOL, I can't eat my ladies - they have names.

Even the four I lost over the first couple of months of chicken keeping got buried in the garden.

as much as I love our girls and guy ( 15 production reds and a RR Rooster) their purpose in life is to feed my family, when a hawk got one of the girls she went in the freezer. who am I to deprive her of her purpose in life. eggs or legs its all good. ( I do understand the sentiment though, it did bother me that she died)

Thank you for the insights on Leghorns...especially which breeds would be good coop-mates with them. I was looking at those cute Silkies and your post quickly put a stop to that daydream. I would hate to have to rehome any chicks due to incompatibilities, so your comments were much appreciated. Also, I will now keep an eye out on the reproductive issues. We don't plan to add winter lights or rush the egg laying cycles, just let our pets be pets. They are certainly not lap pets like other breeds, but the Leghorns are extremely smart, very entertaining to look at and play with. Unfortunately, two of the four girls had a cracked beak at the base of their noses this weekend from being startled by a visiting dog, I was pretty upset with the bloody scene, back to browsing BYC for advises. They seemed better today, eating fine except one will cry out occasionally from pain. Sometimes, it doesn't matter how predator-safe our coops are, it is hard to keep these chickens from harming themselves due to unforeseen circumstances.

Nothing over top as of now. Still brainstorming. How did you know i was putting a cinder block bench in there today for them to roost on...?
