post your chicken coop pictures here!

Our new chicken coop is finished and full. We moved the big girls in late this afternoon after we fenced in the new coop to the run. We had fun just watching them exploring the new place. Now what do we do with all our free time.

Keep watching the chickens.

Winds roared again today. But before i gave up,i managed one piece of demon wire (not fun on a calm day...add wind and ugh), and it's not shown in the photo. i trimmed the door for the run, and painted some more trimwork.

Then the wind won, i decided to climb on the tractor for the rest of the day and till the oat field and plant, add 10 cubic yards of compost to the garden for later tilling, and make buttermilk biscuits to go with our honey mustard chicken dinner.

That's all the energy i could find for the day.

I'm poofed, sunburned, and windburned.

aww sorry about that.
demon wire perfect name for that stuff, I try not to use it
I use construction lath instead. It comes in 2x8 sheets but it doesn't bend. I ziptied it to my kennel wire. It's thicker nothing can get through it.

This is an older picture but it will help explain the story.
I think I figured something out tonight. I went down there at bed time and they all came in and tried to huddle up,peacefully at the end of the table.( there was some pushing and shoving) Some of them tried to fly up to the other side Where I have a vent, some tried to fly up to the rafters. (both fail) I think If I raise the roosting bar over the table, they may be happier. Not sure why I put it so low anyway. I tried to take a picture but no flash on phone.
Very interesting watching them trying to get settled in and listening to them whistle, putt and cackle
.

First day in their new home and I got 3 eggs! My 4 older hens moved into their new coop last night and I was worried about them using their new nest boxes for the first time. They are completely different. We locked them out of their older coop (they are both attached to the run). My Wynandotte was a bit confused as she keep walking back and forth in front of the old coop trying to figured how to get in. I figured she was wanting to lay an egg, so I went down and set in the new coop with them. When she came back in, she tried to nest in a corner on the floor. So I picked her up and but her in a nest box with a ceramic egg in it. One of my Ameraucans looked at me like what are you doing, so I put her in one also with a ceramic egg. (The other two had already figured it out early on their own.) Then I just set in the corner and watched. It was so interesting to watch their process as they both did the same thing but only the Wynadotte left me an egg. But at least the Ameraucans know what to do now, I hope. We'll see tomorrow. Chickens are so much fun.

Another 5 hours today, foggy, dark and wet today. The people door is finished and in the barn waiting to be put up. The devil wire is done on the run. The trim covering the edges isn't up yet. The corregated roof isn't up yet either.

The chicken ramp is in the barn, painted, but not assembled.

You are having weather like ours. It's been raining here for two days on the Oregon coast. Thunder and lighting last night. More coming tonight. Yesterday 3" of rain and today already 1". My girls are loving their new coop because it dry inside and lots of room.

You are making great progress on your run and it's looking great. My husband agrees with you if devil wire is hardware cloth. He hates that stuff.

Yup. Demon wire,devil wire=hardware cloth.

Today it rolled up behind me a zapped the back of my knee. Grrrrr.

My first coop I figured I would use welded wire. i had build aviarys before with Aviary wire panels... So I figured welded wire would be just as easy. I cut the lengths and they curled right up .... No probs I zip tied the edges togehter and did a fold using the zips as a hinge... Woo Hoo flattened right out I ziptied another length... Thats when I realized the error of my ways.

Everything remembered it was supposed to be rolled.... and decided to do so in the middle of my zip tieing process. Took about fifteen minutes to extract myself....
gig.gif
Then came the fastening of the wood to keep it from rolling up again.... Id lay the board on the ground and staple the wire on... When I was done it looked like a cage with a wood frame.... but NONE of the wood two by twos were fastened to each other... it was an Odd thing to move around....
