post your chicken coop pictures here!

Another question here! I went to the EggCartons.com and they have those roll away egg replacement... do you think I could put one of those in the nests that we make and then add one of those nest mats that they sell? Does anybody here have the roll away nests set up?

I would probably just use an old (or new) mousepad in the nest box to prevent the eggs from breaking

Mouse pads are made from the same material that wet suits are made from. they are porous and absorbent I would be concerned any moisture would or could be held in along with its accompanying bacteria.

The nest box pads are like a plastic grass non absorbant yet springy enough to be comfortable walking on for laying an egg. You can take em out and scrub and rinse with a bleach water for sterilization... I have seen Door mats that resemble a nestbox pad... I might try that in my nest box....

These are about three dollars

They are about twelve by twelve and can be cut to fit if need be... my nest design will take two or three

Oh yeah, I'll order a few of those... those look nice, and you're right about washing them...

Just finished converting my kids old crib into a small summer coop for our three silkies. We've recently had to keep them separate from the LF because they were getting picked on and I didn't want to keep them cooped up inside the main coop for the summer. Hardware cloth all around, top to bottom and the front crib rail can be unlocked and pulled down for cleaning inside. I painted the crib with exterior paint and added a living roof so I could plant my lettuce garden and have lettuce all summer (it's in the shade). I'll probably cover it with a tarp over the winter to keep it in good condition. (There's a small waterer and food bin inside, just not visible.)

Right now I have a broody banty in there.

We are going to let the chickens out in the evening but good size for during the day. Used this thread and this site for the information in building the coop and run. This is such a great place for information for us beginners.
