I built this chicken coop in the lean to of the barn.
First pic is of the barn.
Next the lean to.
Then cement floor, walls (all insulated), windows, automatic door, etc.
Painted, gutter installed.
Moved in...

I can take more pictures if needed, the inside has linoleum down ontop of the plywood floor then sand ontop of that. I have a strainer similar to this and a cat litter scoop that I use to scoop all the poop into a plastic colander.

He does come in handy. But I don't think this was how he would spend retirement and his 30 plus years of experience in the Carpenters union. I think the majority of the help was to keep me away from all power tools…….so he thinks.

Just getting so anxious for my first egg.  I'm telling you, it's like waiting for the arrival of your first born.  You know it's gonna happen sooner or later, but the waiting is crazy.

It is!! I had 2 groups of girls. One started at 17 weeks, and have been laying for a couple of months now. The other group is 24 weeks and still free-loading! But I got a soft egg today. I also have 2 older silkies that are laying so I'm not sure if the soft one came from a silkie (which would be quite odd) or one of the free-loaders is finally starting.

This is my coop I built from scratch out of left over materials and new materials from home depot. It is 6x4x4. I didn't use any blueprints or plans or anything,just built it as went.

Used the cheap stick on tiles for the floor for easy clean up and made an automatic door with the old car antenna and a/c adapter trick.

This is the finished hen house which was a pain to move cause it ended up a lot heavier than I predicted. Lol

I have a half acre fenced in to let them free range, but made a run for them as well big enough to get in and clean it and covered to keep it dry. I don't know of any disadvantages of having it so close to the house, but I will find out if there are any. From where it is, all I have to do is walk out the door, lift up the roof on the nest boxes and grab the eggs and go back in.

And the occupants...I have a leghorn, black copper maran, easter egger, golden buff, barred rock, and a cream legbar. And yes that is a bird dog. Just not a very good bird dog. A very good family member, we just don't use her for hunting. Other than hunting, she is trained very well, but we still keep an eye on her.

Greetings from the front range in Colorado.

and the thread. Really nice job there! Not sure how those linoleum squares will work out for you, but time will tell. Only potential issue I see would be fall leaves building up between the coop and run and the fence. Other than that it looks like you made real good use of the space beside the house. You might consider putting a small piece of gutter directly above the nest box for when it rains.

Ohmygoodness Love love love it. I also like the idea of making those nest boxes in a hinged door compassing the whole side of the coop. Such a good idea. I am in favor of being able to walk in the coop to do work but this would be running a close second.

Making notes for my next build....

What a sweet dog... and you are smart knowing that it only takes one distraction of what ever kind to click off that training for a nanosecond.

I had a dog like this who thorugh gentle training I convinced her that herding was OK with my approval only... But I would never place temptation in her way it would be unfair to her.

Love the chickies lined up at the door. Its lIke YOu go in ... No you .... hey little guy ..... I bet your kids are ecstatic. I had to put a padlock on mine though because i found the neighbor girl sitting IN my coop with a chicken in her lap....
