post your chicken coop pictures here!

Save yourself some money Sylvester. Chlorine dissipates when open to the air. Just fill a gallon bucket and leave it on your counter overnight. There will be no chlorine in the morning.
I would LUV to save money but unfortunately chlorine is not the only problem in SoCal. Our water is so harshly mineralized that there is a terrible mineral build-up on faucets, hoses, couplings, sinks, etc. It is so disgusting that for drinking for animals or humans in our house we use bottled water in 5-gallon bottles. I keep several 5-gal bottles on hand at all times for cooking, drinking, or for pets. To drink a glass of tap water in the kitchen with the empty glass left on the sink you can see the mineral debris floating on the bottom. We have new copper piping installed throughout so we can't blame the mineral build-up on old or galvanized pipes. But thanks for your caring input

Do you have a water softener? I think that can remove most of the problem minerals. But in reading just now, they are replaced with sodium which may not be the best thing for drinking either. Still, I think it might be worth doing to save the nasty scale buildup on the faucets, toilet valves, etc. I think it would also help keep your new copper pipes from getting "clogged arteries"

Keep on with those 5 gallon bottles for drinking, I think you are right, you don't have much of an option other than a pitcher filter like Brita. Our prior house was on a neighborhood well and it was hard. Not to the level of yours but scale would show on the sink faucets and I would have to periodically clean the holes in the sprayer in the kitchen sink. Current house is on a well that just serves this house. I think hardness is 7 whereas it was 11-12 at the other house and we don't get scale on the faucets. VERY lucky to not have iron or H2S like some areas of the state.

Not extend an out of theme thread, I have calcium and my old well was once determined to be 40 hardness but the water softener did resolve most of the problem. On that well I also used a whole house filter to remove particles which damage the softener mechanism. Don't know the hardness number of my new well but it is all plastic and doesn't need a filter. I can taste the iron but the softener keeps it under control and I no longer see the calcium floaties in a glass of tap water. I have 2 hard water taps, kitchen sink cold and upstairs bath sink cold. All other lines are soft and all plumbing is plastic (my favorite for many reasons)

I really liked the chicken coop picture you posted on BYC. I have looked at 35-36 pages now, and you are the first person I have complimented! What size is it? And, how is it working for you now? -Donna

Hi Donna, we're not sure who you are speaking to. You may want to go back to the post of the person you are speaking about and click the little "quote" button on the bottom of their post.
