I thought that this was supposed to be a coop building thread??![]()
I agree. We all go off topic once in a while but I do think this should get back to a coop building thread.
Looks awesome!!Here Is my coop! It is a re-purposed corn crib section of our barn. This is the view looking in from the door inside the Barn. The floor is 6'x16' The west exterior side, and the wall behind the camera has been covered with osb to prevent drafts. There are a couple of windows on the west wall for light and vent. The east (slanted) wall is still the corn crib slat wall-there is a 1" gap between all the boards, and overlooks the sheep pen. The south wall has a door that leads out to the sheep pen for easy cleaning, along with 2 windows covered with hardware cloth (and currently plastic) for light and extra vent during the warm season. I has a ceiling made of re-purposed metal roofing to keep the coons out. You can just see the edge of our poo shelf, roosts, and ladder leading up. Underneath there is 3'x7' brooder section.
Currently there is a low roost on the far end for baby chickies to use, but eventually will replace with nest boxes in that general area.
Still needs some parts painted. But most of the materials are scraps or reused. I think we only bought one sheet of osb and the boards to redo the far door. We are also going to relocate the pop door to the area under the ladder. Just waiting for the ground to thaw so we can get our run constructed.
Paganrose, very nice! I am jealous. My husband wouldn't let me have part of our 130' long barn for chickens. I do have two awesome coops though to make up for it.Good luck on the run build and I hope you have a post hole digger for a 3 point hitch.
I will need to look up T poles. We were lucky to get some old telephone poles to use for our run. We got them from a co worker two years ago used all but 5 until last year's expansion. Good luck building! Oh and we were gifted a post hole digger by a brother in law. it's old and takes 3 of us to keep it straight but it works.
