post your chicken coop pictures here!

that's amazing. I'm not showing my girls, they would start complaining and wanting upgrades...

Well they're welcome to come visit any time! Hehe!

I have never had an open run or free ranged. Do they not fly out?

I have one wing clipped on each and so far they are just thrilled with the freedom of the run. I don't leave the coop door open all the time, just when we are around like in the afternoon and evening, so it kind of curtails their exploratory urge.

I originally covered my run to prevent my bantams from flying out. Never even considred predation. Now i completely enclose the run and leave the coop open to them 24/7. BTW, turkeys are really good flyers. My babies are using the coop to roost and eat now. The pens will be gone in a week or so. Here are a few pics and also the new siding enclosing the end of the run.

Just went out and this is what i saw in the run. I counted 13 and there were 3 in tne coop on the top rung. I have 17 babies so one must have been in the pile and i missed it. None were in the brood pens. Earlier today i looked in the coop and there were several on the perch in front of the nest boxes like they owned the place.

They seem to be getting used to each other and the hens are letting them go in the coop without bothering them

The coop run is done and the Littles are enjoying their new home! They have already found a couple of yummy worms to eat!

Very nice looking coop and run. I'm definitely going with all crossed run. There are too many dangers here if the flew out. Thanks for all the advice dveryobe.

Just went out to check and get a better pic, set my phone on flash and here is what i found:

This all happened in one day. Yesterday i checked and they were all in a pile on the floor of the large brood pen and the white turkey was outside next to the screen because the tunnel was blocked. Today the white turkey got stuck in the brood pen and couldnt find her way out so i had to help her out the top. I noticed that a few were getting brave and perching in various places in the coop and some were eating and drinking in there. I was getting excited, my plan was coming together (A Team) :) Now they are roosting like big girls :)

So, new to chickens and you guys have been super helpful so far, thanks.

I decided to build my own coop, as I needed one that was larger than most commercial units. It addition, I wanted something that could be moved with me if needed. This caused me to think of the design of the coop differently. I decided that in order to get both of these items I would need to build a coop that can be modular. To accomplish this, I made it so that with the removal of 16 lag bolts my coop can come apart into 7 separate pieces (roof, four sides, floor, and nesting boxes). Any of these pieces could be moved by one person, although two is easier. I am so far pleased with the finished product. Would love your thoughts though.

I am tightening the last lug on the walls. The floor sits on four cleats, and then has four lags into the 4X4 posts. Each side wall sits on top of the floor and has two lags into the four by fours. The entrance and opposite wall are permanently attached to the 4X4 corners.

The roof is attached at the four corners with lag bolts. I am also building here the detachable nesting box.

Paint here shows well how the nesting box detaches. A french cleat on the top, and two lag bolts on the bottom hold the nesting box on. The large door you see on the left is my cleaning access, and if I need to get in. I saw others that are having a hard time mucking the coop out, I hope this makes that easier.

Here the coops is from the back, nesting box on, pen fenced in, and doors mounted. The chickens seem to like it.

Front side, showing the entrance ramp (and closable door should I decide to do that), and better view of the nesting box.

In the back hatch. You can also see the roost ladder we made out of cut tree branches. The chickens are still young enough that they don't use it very much. Hopefully time will fix that.

Inside the nesting boxes pre-paint. The hooks can lock it open or closed, which I hope make it convenient if I need that.

With all that said, super curious for others thoughts on my first try at coop design and construction.

Will--
