they even have a swing and perches spoild much

The swing super easy didn't cost me a dime just a stick and rope I already had who need a $30 single chicken plastic swing when you can make a multiple bird swing for free. And they love it I go out and have coffee while my EE rooster swings and talks to me

Efficient and effective.
we started with the small, self contained one. Then added the fence panels and built the box. A few more panels, and we Tripple our run size. Along the back of the house.

Oops. I recon one should know what to do, before trien to do it. I don't know how to post pics from my phone. Only had it a couple of months. Sorry. I shall have the wife to instruct me. Lol

I have no doubt that the horizontal nipples are vastly better. The problem i have is some chickens wont be able to reach them comfortably so ill keep the vertical ones unless i notice problems with scaling or debris causing leaks. I can always put some blocks under a few for them but with 22 birds it gets really crowded when they all drink. I could put some on the back side of the pipe with blocks under them but not sure there is enough room for them to drink i may try that approach since i have a bunch of 1/8 in plugs. (It is also very accessible since the door i right there). I found i could drill and tap with water in it and keep all the chips out so it will be easy.

BTW, it appears the horizontal ones are 1/4 in pipe and the vertical ones are 1/8 in but i used the 1/8 in to put the last one in. The diff is the much greater taper on the horizontal threads, way more than normal pipe thread. The thread pitch appears to be the same for both but the vertical threads are a true pipe thread taper, not exagerated like the horizontal. I have a spare scrap pipe so i can try a few different tap strategies before i commit.

Guess ill get back on ebay and get some more since no one carries them in the stores.

I love the swing idea! I'll have to do that as well, thank you for pointing that out

Mine hate the swing so I wasted my time trying to make them something. But they have perches homemade hanging feeders and waterers they arnt the feeders or waterers like you can buy. And the have things they can jump up on. And they get to free range let them out in the morning and they come back at dark. But there has been a fox running around even in the day time so they have been penned up and when I go out I let them out in e snow fenced backyard and keep an eye on them and for the fox. They get treats, you name it they have it. Exepct a big enough house but it's on the list.

My waterer came with a vertical nipple. I added a horizontal nipple as I read on here that don't freeze as easy. I put a heater in my waterer in the winter and that seems to be true for me.

I've seen my chickens drink out of both, funny thing is they all seem to prefer the vertical nipple in the summer and the horizontal one in the winter.

You likely need more nipples if they are crowded around, my waterer below services over 100 birds, from bantam chickens, standard chickens, guinea fowl and adult peafowl, I rarely if ever see more than one or two birds drinking at a time, and that is with 100+ birds in the coop...

The vertical ones are M10-1.0, this is nearly identical to 1/8" NPT so it will fit a tapped 1/8" NPT opening pretty well...

The horizontal ones are not a recognized thread, but they are the same 1.0mm pitch as the vertical, so they will fit into a 1/8" NPT or M10-1.0 threaded hole just fine, just don't over tighten them...

If you use a 1/8" NPT tap or a "tapered" M10-1.0 tap you will be fine for both styles...
