Fowl Stuff sells these bucket nestboxes. They are really neat. There are a few versatile ways to install these buckets either inside or outside a coop wall and with or without rear access for egg collection.

Mine will be at the end of the tractor with an access door behind them. I can rotate the bucket to get the eggs while the buckets will block the chickens exit. I'm not sure how my dogs will react to chickens, so the not escaping thing is important. Should I loosely bolt the buckets to the floor to keep the chickens from flipping it over? It'd be a little harder to clean that way, but far more secure.

Seems to me the "access perches" are way too high on those buckets. Once on it the poor hen has to nearly crawl (over the open space) to get in since it is higher than the bottom of the opening. The perches would be more useful if the top of them was located level with the bottom of the actual bucket.

And, sorry to be critical, at the height those buckets are attached, the hen doesn't need an access perch anyway.

That was just the first google picture I found. I am planning on putting the buckets on the vinyl floor of the tractor at about waist level when standing outside. The roosts will be higher in the top of the tractor and there is a ramp to get access to grazing, food and water below at ground level. I'm thinking about loosely bolting the nesting buckets to the floor so I can spin them around to to get the eggs from the outside and the chickens won't be able to knock the buckets over.

This is the rabbit hutch that I have ordered, which I will use as a chicken coop. Only for laying eggs and sleeping though. They will be outside in a large fenced in grassy backyard. I am not a first time chicken owner, but now I live somewhere else and want to have a new flock of hens. I am so excited about the coop arriving, but also made at myself for buying it, since I just found out it would only fit a maximum of 1-2 chickens...
Thank goodness I have a husband and father in law who are very talented in building things! Lol
I would want at least 4-5 chicken. Not for meat, only for eggs. Excuse me for being all over the place, I am just so excited to start a flock after 6 years of having to be without! Whenever the coop arrives, and is build together and I have my new gang of girls, I'll upload pictures

Greetings @Chickadee1982 and welcome to BYC! I'm glad you realize that coop is too small for more than 1-2 birds. Many (who know no better) actually "believe" the manufacturer's statement that it will hold 4-6.

They should be ashamed for taking advantage of the unknowing! Hope hubby can expand it out quite a bit to hold your desired #. Of course having had chickens before, you're probably well aware of chicken math... you know how numbers of birds increase all on their own over time...

Anyway, browse around the site and make yourself at home! There's lots of great info and advice here for the taking!

Well, I paid $109 for it, that's why I am mad. Lol
It is definitely too small for at least 4 or 5 hens. My husband will probably build something like this

I have the exact same thing. I use it as a grow out coop for young chicks. But I have encounter some issues. All of the hinges are zinc. They rust in a matter of months in a coastal climate. Also, where roof covering meets the wood frame is a weak spot for water to penetrate. Most chicks outgrow it by about 6 to 8 weeks old. At that point, they are just too big to fit through the door at the top of the ramp.
