post your chicken coop pictures here!

Made some progress during the BYC site cut-over. (Needed to keep myself occipied while I couldn't post ...) The chickies have been outdoors for a couple of days now, and with no ill effects.

This is ours that's currently being built. Square frame will be the coop and the other is the run area. We're concentrating on getting the run area finished first and then the coop. The babies aren't old enough to be in it full time, over night and all. But they are old enough to spend a good bit of the day outdoors, so I wanted that to be the first part finished so I can use it, and be working on the coop.

Mine is actually called SweetPDZ but I know they do make one for chickens. Not sure why ours only carries that one. But it's the same stuff, different bag lol people mix it in with the horse bedding to make the shavings last longer I think

Yeah, My bad. The granulated stuff is called Sweet PDZ. CoopKlean is a mixture of powdered zeolite and short cut hay. I use that on the coop floor. The chickens love scratching through it. There must be some hayseeds mixed in, I guess.

Ohhh okay, that makes sense. That sounds like it might be better. I'll have to look for it

or cut down the "weedy" vines, toss them into the run area. Then add any and all other untreated grass/weed trimmings, leaves, pine straw, some branches (for different sizes), fruit/veggie trimmings from the kitchen or the garden and watch them dig/sort thru the new deep litter while having very little dust or mud to contend with and making your run prettier, too. And later, you will have nicely mixed compost that you can then add to your garden and potted plants. Win/Win all the way around. Wish I had good pics of the finished product, but right now I don't. I could probably go in and dig thru the pens that the pics below are from - haven't had chickens in them for over a year... Getting ready to take down the 4 smaller pens to put in hoop coops and will go right back to the deep litter method (DLM) when they are complete.

We have also had a couple of our chickens join us in our above ground swimming pool and know that others here have as well. Might be pics if you search, we don't have any.

sorry folks - I tried to quote from a few pages back and it didn't carry forward... I'm going to try to see which one I did this from. Updates are always nice, but I sure missed something and this now seems SO out of context!

My 17 hens have been in the new hen house and run for a month now. They went from four separate groups in four tractors, to one big group, not without some drama, and bullying, which has been solved with Pinless Peepers on the most aggressive.

For more details on the building and finishing of the hen house, or grazing frames, see my blog for the pages:

Just wanted to say that I LOVE this coop/run and the write-ups you did in your blog. Thank you for sharing.

This is the first time I've really seen the peepers and I may be having to order some to keep on hand for a few of ours.

I currently have 3 coop/runs set up w/o free range due to predator issues (stray dogs digging under our pasture fences). Your showing the electric around the individual coops is VERY helpful. I may have to do something similar and really think the A-Frame tractor will be good for our ducks, too. Are you able to give the actual sizes of the other tractors you had/have?

We also have 4 small pens and a larger coop/run set up behind our house. I've been wanting to remove the 4 pens (too short for me to easily access), turning them into hoop coops that can be walked into w/ access to the garden we are setting up. Figure that would make sustainable breeder pens - with access to various pasture/garden from each one from there. Thank you for a lot of ideas.
