I put zip-ties on the legs of birds I can't tell apart by sight, a different color on each one, or a different leg, or different combinations of 2 colors. Just tight enough that it doesn't slip over the "thumb" claw, just loose enough so it doesn't pinch. But sometimes, after a while of observation, you can start to detect subtle differences so you can identify each one without looking at the colored tie.
