Last Sunday (we had only been checking the nest box once or twice a week) we found breakfast!

The loaf of bread had just come out of the oven about a half an hour before. The white one in the middle is a store bought Grade A Large for scale.

We have 3 BO's, and I am certain at least two are laying. Since then, it's been between 1 and 3 a day, so maybe all three! It's like somebody turned on a light switch.

I found my first egg on August 1. It was laid by "Penelope," the 6 month old Red Star.

One of our chickens was not in the coop when we went to lock up, so we looked everywhere for her.

We still haven't found her (maybe she will come home for breakfast), but we found this instead.

It's next to a store bought large egg for size comparison. While I'm worried sick about my one chicken, I'm so excited about our first egg EVER. If we hadn't been looking for our SLW we never would have found this. She laid it on the enclosed porch behind the sofa. Obviously the door got left open and she thought it a better place than her nest box. Woooo Hoooo!!!

By the color, I'll swear this was laid by the 6.5 month old Golden Sex Link. But it's the 8 month old Cuckoo Maran who's been in and out of the nest all day, coming out and singing the egg song, and going back in. In fact, she's been singing the egg song as loudly as possible....all day long. My agreeable neighbors may not stay so aggreeable, even if they DO leave their dogs out to bark all night. This is not a case of 'turnabout is fair play', this is 'Pepper has suddenly learned a new word and is screaming it so everyone can hear'.

Got my first two yesterday and today from one of my girls...20 weeks to the day.
we were so excited!!! I want to save the first shell...anyone can tell me how to blow an egg? We were hoping to still eat it but we want to save the shell!!!




That's my roo and the girl I am 95% sure laid those eggs...this next ones just her! Way to go Princess!

The egg on the left is a store bought large egg and the one on the right is from my backyard!

Got my first egg last thursday from my 22 week old white leghorns. Friday no eggs, saturday 2 eggs, sunday 2 eggs.
Pretty good for only two hens!

A few of the girls have been laying for about 2 weeks now. I think another one has started laying too, & I found 3 very different sized eggs today.

The really big one on the left is so big, it won't fit into the plastic egg carton!
