Well it finally happened......We got our first egg. Something that looked like it may never happen.

We think we know who laid it because she was the one over the last few days has spent time going in and out of the nest boxes and even had "Big Guy" our rooster showing her what to do in the box.

Not MY first egg, but my bantam cochin's first egg, and the first two eggs from my Welsummer.

Dunno why, but I am as thrilled with them as I was with the first egg ever laid by any of my gals!

Last saturday morning it was raining, they had food and plenty of water, so I didn't go to the run - (coop door is always open in the summer). I went to the grocery store and bought eggs. Last Saturday evening I let them out for a little while, took pics and posted them here asking if they were roosters, and when I went to put them up, after dark, I couldn't see one of the chickens where she had roosted.
So I shined my little flashlight in the nest box and this is what I found! wahlah, they are not roosters!

I have three Silver Laced Wyandottes. They are just about 17 weeks old. Last Sunday, one of my girls (not sure which) started laying. I wasn't expecting this for another month or so, so when I couldn't find one of the chickens I got awfully worried -- until I noticed she was inside the henhouse, sitting in a nestbox. Then I was ecstatic! Here is the result:

I also have Silver Laced Wyandottes and they are 19 weeks now, I thought they'd never lay! But we went out this morning to open the coop and voila! First eggs EVER EVER- for me or the chicks!
