This is my first egg from my "peepers" - my youngest group of chickens - all about 21 week old 'feather-footed bantams' - four Silkies, two Mille Fleur D'Uccles, one black Cochin frizzle, and three Buff Brahmas. I have no idea whose egg it is, dark tan with "freckles"...I'm thinking it's one of the Brahmas...any ideas? I have other older hens in another coop, but not these breeds.

We got our first green egg today! I noticed Lola squatting last weekend when I went to pet her. She even squatted for our dog, Moxie.

Then today, voila, a pretty sage green egg.

The egg on the left is from Hazel, our Barred Plymouth Rock, the middle is from Lola, and the one on the right we suspect is from Maple our Buff Orpington, who started laying about 1 1/2 weeks ago. We think it is Maple, because her comb just got all red and fleshy.

The flash makes it look lighter, but it is really a nice sage color.

oh and about the egg-skelters - which I think are incredibly cool, too. I ordered one, too - got mine from www.homefarmfowls.co.uk and was about $33 US total for the one I got, which is the one made specially for bantam eggs, as all my chooks are bantams. Why don't they make these in the US? Somebody could make a lotta money making these here!

I love looking at everyone's eggs! They're so pretty! Hopefully i'll be able to post a first egg soon, because our SS started squatting tuesday, and she's making a nest now!

Our SS, Nellie laid her first egg! She started squatting Tuesday, and made a nest last night. She's two days short of 20 weeks. She laid it around 6:30 PM last night. We found it on the floor of the coop, so why she made a nest, we have no clue.
Here's her egg, in between a store bought and a quarter!

And here's Nellie, a few hours before she laid it!

I had it for breakfast, it was very good!

Our four chickens are now 24 wks old. We were so excited to get our first egg today!! We think it may have come from one of our easter eggers based on the feathers in the nesting box and squatting behavior. Alas, it's not blue or green, but it is an egg none the less and it was DELICIOUS!
