We got our first egg yesterday. We bought a pullet to replace the roo we had and had to return to the farm we got him from. We weren't interested in keeping a rooster. Raspberry, a golden comet who is 4 months old, laid her first egg when she was at our home for an hour! Last night, when everyone was asleep, we placed her in the hen house with all the other girls. Late this morning she laid her second egg. Right in the nest box! No training necessary. Here's hoping that she shames the other girls into action!
We got her from the same guy that we got three of our chicks. Very well cared for animals that are in great shape. He runs a grange in Seattle and I couldn't recommend his business more highly than to say that I would probably never buy a chicken from anyone else.
Everyone is getting along today - other than a few minor scuffles.
The very first egg weighing in at a hefty 41 grams.
The second egg weighing in at a slightly less portly 40 grams.
