at 18 weeks 6 days, my RSL Nellie laid me a small, perfect, slightly speckled egg right in her nest box next to the golf ball!
We're still waiting for sisters Beatrice and Henny to get the hint....

And next to a large grocery store egg

LAYING QUESTION: has anyone had a hen with an egg that seems to just sit right at the vent for a few days without her laying the egg? should I be worried?

WE GOT OUR FIRST EGG TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure it was our oldest hen Java.

1.5 oz egg. WOOOHOOOOO!

I've shrieked myself hoarse today, rofl... But yeah, Java is about 4.5 months old and a beautiful Easter Egger.

I looked at it this morning and I was like "Did they leave a clump of feathers or something?" then I went to pick it up and the realization hit me like an adrenaline rush.

Don't have experience with it myself but from what I've read, new layers take a while to work the kinks out of their system. I imagine a warm bath wouldn't hurt anything, though, and it just might help.

Anyone else catch this question?

Five month old plus a couple of days and I found this in the run when I went out to bring them in. Wasn't home to hear it but I hope it wasn't too loud. YAY! Likely from my Welsummer, or maybe the Buff Orpington, though it's a week younger.

They're purty. Mean as snakes, but since they started laying they've become my favorites anyway!
