I don't have a picture...the egg is a nice pretty brown egg, but the story is great! I brought home 9 chicks the night a freak tornado in Northern CALIFORNIA came through! I got stuck in the barn when the tornado went by. Tonight we are having another storm that has threatened to produce another freak tornado and what do I find, in the barn (not the coop, but that's OK)? One of those girls laid her first egg! I hope it doesn't take a tornado to get these girls to put out!

Hands down, this is the most adorable thing I have seen in a while! You talk to your girls just like I do...and my husband makes fun of me! Congrats on your egg. Good girl, Daisy!

We didn't think our pullets were laying and were getting a bit concerned about it. As it turned out, one of them WAS laying, somewhere we weren't looking. Sneaky little lady.

Oh my gosh...after reading this thread all day and wondering when I was EVER going to get an egg (my girls are 22 weeks and 18 weeks), IT HAPPENED!!!!!

Dobby, my white leghorn/cochin X, age 22 weeks, hung around in the nestbox this afternoon, which is very very odd. The girls only ever care about getting *out* of the coop in the morning and getting back in at night. During the day they free-range, and never even come close to the coop. In fact, I had pretty much made up my mind that when the girls finally did lay, I would be poking around under the porch, in the multiflora rose bushes, and every other uncomfortable place that they like to frequent on my three acres in order to find their eggs.

But, lo! Wee McDobberton laid a perfect, tiny egg in the nest box! I think I am having palpatations. LOL

After practically being in tears that my 23-26 week flock of 11 pullets had not given me anything, I finally found this this morning:

My Barred Rocks are the most mature looking. Is this what their eggs normally look like? It's creamy and pinkish.

Didn't see the sticky before.

First egg on Wednesday, none yesterday, then two today.
