Our first egg! Not sure who it came from, but we suspect a 23-week old Barred Rock who has been chirping a bit differently today. Didn't hear anyone clucking the 'the egg song'. Did she lay it in the nice nest boxes that I built? Nope! This is the large wood shavings bag in the sunniest corner of the coop.

My Marans laid her first egg today

!!!! she wanted to sun bathe while she squeezed that one out! Same with my ducks and 1 chicken - 2 of the 3 ducks had an egg accident in their yard & 1 chicken laid a random outside the coop - now the ones that are laying all have been going in either of the 2 barrels or a square metal box like thingy I put together to hide behind the coop ramp. Even though she was a little bit naughty on where she laid the egg you gotta be over the moon happy

Congrats btw :)

YAY!!! I suspect this came from our RIR Buffalo who I posted about saturday. I found it in the window well of the basement window where they like to hang out!. Im such a dork Im so excited"" I texted my boyfriend but he hasnt seen it yet! I think I will keep them penned up until i get home form work so they learn to lay in the coop. YAY for Buffalo!

This is the first egg I brought out of the barn. It was in the indoor run, I have yet to build the nest boxes:

Saaaay, what breed of chicken laid that egg? you ask.

Um, well, er - the barn swallow breed

I was going to wait until the girls started laying to post my first egg but I was trying to trace the electric wires in the barn (what a mess) and had to take the old barn swallow nest off a plastic box with a light fixture. I guess this one didn't hatch. Given there were at least 3, MAYBE 4 (they were crammed in so tight I couldn't be sure) barn swallow chicks that flew from the nest on July 4, I don't think there would have been room for one more anyway.

So it IS my first egg, but not my first CHICKEN egg. And there is nothing in the forum title or the first post that says it HAS to be a chicken egg, right?

First egg came Friday, and whichever girl it was laid another yesterday. They're pretty small eggs, but hopefully as she matures the eggs will get bigger. Now waiting for the others to start laying!

Yay! I have been getting eggs from some of my hens (I bought some layers because I got impatient waiting for my babies to grow up).
But today two of my girls laid their first eggs!

My EE layer is the most consistent layer I have right now. The other three eggs (from left to right) are from a BS (a layer that finally started again after her molt), the very first egg from a BA (32 weeks old), and the very first from a RIR (25 weeks old)!! YAY, my babies are growing up!

Our sex link has been laying for over a week now 8 eggs in 10 days. Yesterday we got what we believe is our first from our Wyandot the middle one. The one on the right was laid 7:30am today by the SL.
