My first egg from one of my barred rocks.

Our first egg from our first little flock is in my profile picture! That was from 2010. Finally our city lets us have chickens now, so we're waiting on a new "first" this time around!

Here's my first EE egg :) Beatrice was just standing inside a nest barrel yest. I thought she was just sad from losing her hatch mate Ethel...then this morning I went out to collect eggs & do a walk about to look for anymore traces of the ****** coyotes that got 4chickens & 1duck. It's the perfect color for a winter starter - pale blue w/ just a hint of frosty green in it.
Beautiful eggs. I love that mix of colors. I can hardly wait till my new girls grow up and I can get a beautiful array of colors like this. Shegeekster your eggs are wonderful as well. I have 2 - one month old murans... such a long wait on them..... I am excited for summer when all the new birds grow up and we can have a wonderful verity as this. I will have a few more of my birds though...
I kinda know what you mean, Inthesticks. I lost 6 girls and 2 turkeys to some lose dogs. My girls were very upset for a while. Does your area permit you to deal with the coyotes? We are not supposed to do anything about them here but the animal control told me that as long as I post a warning signs around my property then I am allowed to place poison down, "with the purpose of controlling or destroying predatory animals or livestock-killing dogs". I would normally not consider this but we have at least 4 homes that have all lost birds and rabbits. One neighbor is very worried about when his sheep start lambing. Good luck. I hope you get those..... coyotes.

Just got my first eggs yesterday! I found one outside on the ground. It had frozen because of the cold and cracked open, but later on in the day I checked again and found three more eggs in the nesting boxes!

On the left side is a store bought egg for size comparison.

We can't use night vision, but as long as we are 500ft from any house we can do away with them. Just got a trail camera in today (ordered it the afternoon of the incident) So I can track their patterns then eliminate them -always wanted to try tanning skins-. Set it up so that way if anything comes near or around the coop & fenced yard I will have the time stamped on it. I wouldn't hesitate to do something about it. About 7yrs ago there was a pack of greyhounds that would harass the neighborhood dogs - even tried to gang up on my late Australian Shepherd, Gunner. My father to shoot the leader in the eye because they wouldn't back down to my dog..or my dad w/ a gun. There haven't been any issues since then....till now. Def do what you can do to keep them away, with any hope the ones that eat that poison will last long enough to get eaten by their peers & further rid the area of them.

I posted a pic of our first egg on wednesday. No egg yesterday, but found this one today!

Here is the first two together. Any opinions about wether they were laid by the same chicken or different girls? The first one was much lighter in color.

And just for fun, a picture of Beatirce (aka Big Bird)...one of the likely suspects of the first two eggs.
