Well, the loooong awaited first egg has finally been laid! By my beauty Hazel, an Ameraucana/EE. It is beautiful and we cannot wait to get more! So exciting!!

Congrats! Wow you have lots of eggs. But the first is always amazing! I have a gold star... I hope her egg color is like this. Beautiful Brown...

We found these three tiny eggs this afternoon... all of them sank so I guess they're okay. We haven't mounted the nest boxes up high yet but found these on the ground next to one.

We weren't expecting eggs for another 4-5 weeks, so I guess one (or three) of my girls lied about her age.

The oldest hens we've got are about 17 weeks old. Not sure which one(s) turned these out... all are tan and one is speckled.



I put a large store-bought egg in there for reference



Light speckles.

I guess my husband has far less time to finish the coop with nest boxes than he thought :p
