Oh man, I thought they were NEVER going to lay... Then this afternoon, look what I found when closing up the coop?

I have 4 Buff Orps, 26 weeks old today (hatched May 19). The egg is small, but perfect. Bliss.

My new chickens were 24 weeks last Wednesday. Got my first egg last Thursday. Hurray, at least one read the book that said 24 weeks to start laying. Others are now with the program. I'm waiting to see if my 5 year old biddies will follow in the steps of the youngsters. I've gotten three eggs out of them in the last six months. Sorry no camera.

I got my first eggs on Sunday, November 16. I think the first actually came on Saturday, but I was sick and spent the day sleeping. My DH opened up the chicken hut, but he didn't look for an egg. We hadn't been expecting any now since we only have 10 hours of daylight, but low and behold, when I went out Sunday, I found two! Since then I've found one a day. I'm pretty sure that only one of the pullets is laying, the black sex link. I was so thrilled on Monday. I hurriedly put in a nest box and on Monday, the egg was in it!

We got our hens a little over a month ago - and they have FINALLY given us their first egg! I thought it would never happen - I got so used to there being zero eggs 100% of the time - then when I went to close up the coop this evening and I saw an egg - I thought to myself, "Wait, when did I put this here?" We are so excited!

I think they are about 26 weeks now, we've got two red sex-links (KK & Wilhelmina), one dominique (Nadine), and one white leghorn (Blanche). Not sure who laid it - but it's a brown egg - so it wasn't Blanche.

Our first egg laid by one of our Red Rocks on 11-18-08 with outdoor temps in the mid 20's.

Congrats Vavavoom! I know how exciting it is. I couldn't figure out how to post photos either, that's why I didn't post on day one of the egg. There are several ways, it turns out, but what I did was click on the upload tab up on the top. Then clicked below on the my upload link. This brought me to a page to upload my own photos, which I did. I then copied the image link and pasted it into my post. I did a preview to be sure the images were there, and they were.

I had gotten a small egg and just thought my australorp was laying a lot so they were smaller, and then we got two eggs. Earlier today my mom collected one egg and then after we came home later tonight I checked and there where two eggs, so all three are now laying

these are the various small eggs we have gotten over the last few days, and two were collected today but I forgot which ones they were.
