hyork18, Your egg is beautiful!! I know you're excited. Wish I had blue eggs but my blue chicken turned out to be a rooster; I'm jealous (laugh)... 9.27.15...Kay in NC

klay, You probably won't have to wait too much longer. One of my RIRs laid an egg on the start of the 19th week and a Barred Rock started the next week and slowly others have started laying. I had just put fake eggs in the boxes the day before. Hang on... 9.2.15 ... Kay in NC

I just posted that my RIR laid first and then a Barred Rock. I guess it doesn't really matter but I got it mixed up. The first egg was laid by a Barred Rock (I have two) and then a week later a RIR (I have 3) laid her first. Must give credit where credit is due... 9.27.15.. Kay in NC

I have no idea what type mine are. I have some that are definitely barred rocks. I have a blonde one, two blacks, and a few russet colored ones, and two little bitties that I was told were silkie that would lay colored eggs, but they don't look like any silkie on Google. They have crazy feathers, but feathers they are I believe, and furry legs and feet. They haven't laid yet I don't think. I also have two rooster brothers with big green tail feathers and red feathers throughout their black feathers? They've already killed two other rooster, and injured what I think is a black hen. And I think they're raping the hens. I know a russet one has laid because I saw her sitting on the eggs. Yes, I have no idea what I'm doing.

I got my first egg today!! My first flock, here in Alaska, just turned 20 weeks old. I "believe", not entirely sure, 'cause I did not see it happen, but I think it was my Cornish Rock hen. She's been doing the submissive pose lately, and I've seen a few of my various roosters mounting her. Her pelvic bones are also an easy 3 fingers wide. We kept her, cause she was smaller than the rest of our meaties we'd had, and my DH just loves her. They were actually his favorite birds, he likes their bigness, figures she might lay a bigger egg. This first one, of course, was very small, much smaller than the store bought eggs we have. Oh but I do love it, and its beautiful little speckled shell! I was so happy, whomever it was who laid it, actually used the makeshift nesting box we'd just put in on Friday. *just in the nick of time, apparently* To say that I was a little 'eggcited' when I came into the house, would be an understatement! As much as I know it was on the way, I was not expecting to see it quite yet, to be compltely honest, so when I first spotted it was like

And told them (the birds)..I don't know who actually laid this, but OMG!! Great job, you actually used the nesting box!! Way to go!

you can see how tiny it is compared to the store bought eggs in the carton.

give her a week or so they will get larger and better with practice! my silkieXpolish started laying last sunday and everyday since her eggs get atleast a gram bigger everyday

Today our Buckeye pullet, RaRa, laid her very first egg! These are the first chickens we have ever had! This is our very first egg that they have laid. Such an exciting day! Her comb has grown and become much larger recently and she started doing the submissive squat about 5 days ago. I am so very proud of her!

The little blue egg looks green in this pic. The white egg next to it is store bought for comparison. I have two that lay blue, one that lays light pink, one that lays dark pink (almost rose), one light brown, one very dark brown and one that hasn't started laying real eggs yet (just soft shelled so far). Every one of my hens started out laying soft shelled eggs. The first two or three eggs were soft shelled, then they started laying their normal eggs. Anxious to see what color this 7th hen will lay.
