Whoohooo!! They're here! What are the odds - both of our BR girls laid their first eggs on the same morning! (oops - the giant one is from the store) Now the EE's need to get busy too!

Wow! Congratulations! The *exact* same thing happened to us this AM (two BRs, two first eggs). I wonder if maybe that's more common than we think?
The two red crosses that I bought at 17 weeks old are laying.
So, at two eggs a day, It will only take 1500 days or so to recover my investment in the coop and run to match store prices!
Need to wait till September for the girls from my brooder to get going though. Hopefully when the rest if the girls come on line, I'll recover my invstment in under a year.
Seems like this hobby is just like the fish I catch or pheasants I hunt - each of them must cost fifty times what you could buy them for in the store.
I will say that the egg tastes really good though, and I ate it on a very fancy plate! Plus the girls are happy to see me when I come home
Yay! Our Ameraucana pullet and Bantam Cochin pullet laid their first eggs!
Pics:
Blue egg is from our black Amer. pullet, Raven. The two little cream colored eggs are from our buff Bantam Cochin pullet, Pumpkin. And the big egg is from one of our Buff Orpingtons, just for comparing.
The blue egg was just about 2 inches long, 1 1/2 inches wide. The two cream colored ones were about 1 1/2 inches long, 1 inch wide.
