Our first egg today; about 6 days after she started 'the squat' I couldn't have been more excited. We each had a bite for breakfast!!

We found our first 2 at the same time, and they were small, and made the most perfect ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. Fit on the english muffin without a bit of overhang! I didn't take pictures of the cooked egg, but they were cute!

My roo was making a funny noise this morning so I peeked out to do a head count and couldn't find one of my Millie Fluer D'uccles. Oh Lord, I thought, PLEASE don't let her be gone... snatched by a hawk.... PLEASE NOT MILLY! So, I get my flip flops on and head outside to look for her. I'm looking everywhere and no Milly. I'm starting to panic a bit when I notice a tail in the small dog house I have in their wire cage, the one that they all refused to use. So, I bend down to get a good look and there she is, MILLY, sitting in the pine shavings! I run back inside and tell my DD (7) that HER chicken is laying her first egg!

Well, after a while I go back out to see if she is done. She is out and about with her sister, Daisy, so I go to the dog house and look inside. Here is what I found...

So either Milly laid her first egg yesterday, and I just didn't know it, or Daisy has laid her first egg too.

Here are the sisters, Milly is on the left, Daisy on the right.

Here are the eggs compared to a penny.

They're so cute but they aren't as small as I though they'd be. It'll be interesting to find out if they're fertile since my only roo is a SLW.

I just found my first quail egg!!! Man, is it pretty. I did take a picture but it didn't come out very good. I'll get another tomorrow to post. It's late now and I'm too tired to fuss. I'm so excited!!
