Well I can join the echelons of egg producers, my girls were born on the 5th of June this year and yesterday we had out first, here it is next to a standard egg.
Today we got 2 and 3 so were optimistic for tomorrow. We have 15 females, 9 BO's and 6 SLW's. Not sure who's laying but there happy now we have dispatched 12 roosters leaving only 5 to badger them, (2 more to be removed next week once they decide who's best behaved)
It's been a privilege to finally see the whole cycle come together, from the frantic rush finishing the coop, the desperate search for the 'right' chickens, the 'right' hatchery, the 'right' feed, the 'right' way to process the extra roo's and now the 'right' man for our girls.
I have come to realize there is no wrong way, just what ever you feel comfortable with to get to the end product. I wish everyone best wishes to those that helped us on the way (some did not know that they helped, but they asked the question before me, I love the search function) and everyone who is patiently waiting (or more properly, impatiently waiting) for that first egg I can only offer encouragement.
