No idea which girl laid it, but we have two suspects.
I didnt think we would get anything til spring.

Here are my first TWO eggs! I didn't get a chance to post yesterday before they laid another today!

From left to right: 2nd egg (today), 1st egg (yesterday), a store-bought large egg

My best guess is that it was my Black Australorp who laid the 1st egg. I had cleaned the coop the day before & after I added new pine shavings, she was in the nest area scratching around. She was also making sort of funny noises.

Now, the 2nd egg from today, is a slightly different shade of brown. Could it be from one of the other chickens? I think the RIR is molting, so probably not her, but it could be the Barred Rock. Or could the color difference be from the 1st egg spending a day in the fridge (the pic was taken right after I brought the 2nd egg in)? Both eggs were in the same exact spot.

I'm not sure who (BR, SLW, NHR, RIR, EE) laid this but here is my first egg. All hens were hatched on July 15 and this suprise (the egg not the quarter, although that would be cool too

) was left for me on Dec 03 on the coop floor (we'll have to talk to them about that). So that makes 20 weeks and 1 day. I hope the others saw what she did and follow her lead.

FINALLY!

They're starting to pay the rent! Well, one of them anyway. Here are stats:

Australorp
22 week, 5 days (hatched June 16)
TWO pretty brown eggs!

When I went out this morning to open up the coop, 2 of the 3 came bounding down the ramp as usual, and when I looked inside for the third she was sitting on the nest with this “give me a minute will ‘ya?” expression. DD went out a few minutes later to check on her and sure enough there were 2 eggs in the nest! I think the AUlorp laid both of them because one was warm and the other cold, so she must have laid that one early this morning or late yesterday. She’s the most mature of the three, her comb and wattles are fully colored and developed; she's also the largest.

So hopefully our BO and EE will soon get with the program.

I'll add a photo later today.

My Freeloading Cuckoo Marans, who are one year old in just a few weeks, laid their first eggs this week. They are getting darker every day, too, so I'm glad they're turning out so well! My camera has been in the shop, so I have I been saving them up til I could take a pic! They had to replace my whole camera with an upgrade (Yay Warranty!)...So here are the Freeloaders eggs...Guess I need to give them a new nickname?
