I am SO thrilled at this - I'm glad Rebecca, my EE, was the first to lay, because she's the only green egg producer. She laid this first egg last Friday, March 5th.
Yesterday (Sunday), Matilda the Black Australorp, laid her first egg, but I don't have a picture of it (yet). I was lucky to see her head off to the nests and hear her egg song, so I knew it was hers. (Brown egg.)
I've had other eggs, but they weren't the chickens' first; I bought two Lakenvelders who were already laying. But I raised Rececca and Matilda from 3-day old chicks last October, so I'm REALLY thrilled about this.
I got a little bitty Buff Orpington egg today!!!!!!!!! I have no idea which of the 2 birds laid it, but who cares.
So far 4 of my 5 fall 2009 pullets have started to lay!!
The other two black sexlink pullets aren't laying very big eggs yet, but this one was tiny!! (White eggs are from year-old Leghorns.)
