We got our first eggs this morning -- two on the same day!

I got my Faverolles chicks September first, and now, 5 months in the making I present.. EGGS! Not one, but TWO at the get-go!

So I'm wondering if they laid two to make up for lost time.

By the way, anyone have any comments on squatting hens? My hen Colette would squat the past couple of days and I thought she might be doing so for one of the following reasons:

A) She was practicing laying
B) She was feeling insecure around me so squatted the way she would for a hawk
C) Not having any roosters she thought I could um... uh... do the honors? <--- EEEEP!

So as the squatting preceeded the first eggs by 2 days, maybe the squatting was practicing laying? Anyone know?

The answer is...... C! You are her protector and provider, the closest thing she has to a rooster.

We got our first two eggs on sunday

Left is from RIR and Right is from Barred Plymouth Rock

Eggs laid from 22DEC09 to 25DEC09. Large egg near top left is a double yolker from Plymouth Rock.

All these eggs below were laid by one RIR from 30NOV09 to 12DEC09 with the exception of two days that she missed (One egg is missing - the very first she laid was pecked open at one end because it was left there until 9 pm).

Shown below, these eggs were laid yesterday. The Extra Jumbo measures around 3.5 inches by 2 inches.

Below Rosy just laid that egg, I sat there watching until she did.

Below Chicky just laid this egg while everyone was watching. She always lays large to jumbo eggs.

Yeay my first egg!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe how excited I am. I thought wouldnt be but I am
My chicks were hatched on September 15th 2009. Today March 5th I got my first egg in the morning and then at noon my second.

The first one is pretty dark so I think it's the Maran that layed that one. THe second is lighter so that can be either the Plymouth Rock or the Welsumer. I also have eastereggers, I am very excited to see one of those eggs.

It is finally getting warmer in the chicago area so I kinda expected it!!!

Nothing quite as magical as that first egg! You keep looking looking looking then suddenly it's there!

Not my first egg. But the first one like this. I have an egg scale and it bottoms it out, and you can't get the carton closed. Double yoker!

first egg- yesterday, 3/5/2010.
second egg today 3/6/2010
third one is a store bought extra large egg

I have 6 hens hatched around 9/1. white, rock, australorpe, and 4 EE's
I suspect it's the australorpe.
