On Sunday we got our first ever egg, I think from Beetle the Australorp.![]()
The RIR is close to laying too (it is late springtime here) but I think her egg will have a shine on it and be a little redder. The other two (Barnevelder and Silver Campine) don't look quite as close yet and I will be able to distinguish their eggs.
This first egg weighed 38g, no bad for a first effort - and she laid it neatly in the nesting box! She laid again Monday - but off the roost and it broke.It's Tuesday morning here in Australia - and her third egg, off the roost again but this time I had put straw underneath it and it survived the fall. I hope she remebers the right place soon!![]()
Here it is compared to a supermarket large organic egg. We will eat her first two surviving eggs today and I just know they will taste like the best eggs in the world!
