Post your fluffy chicken butt pictures here!

I'm a couple days early, but here's some mid-week cuteness for fluff-lovers ♥️
Miss "Wabi-sabi" showing off her beautiful butt-fluff, with her companion, "Mr. Echo" ☺️
Both are Mottled Bantam Cochins, about 6 month old.

How do you like your Meyer cookies and cream? I was looking to buy one but don't know it's breeds, so I don't know if it will get along with my flock. I have Orpingtons, EE, a Silkie roo, and a Maran. 2 of the Orpingtons are Jubilee roos and they are horrible birds, supposed to be a mating pair, they've killed a young guinea, tried 2 others, and they pick on everyone else. I'm not so trusting in Meyer's temperament descriptions after the trouble we've had and all the research we did on the birds we ordered. I want a docile friendly flock.

That just sounds so frustrating! 😕 So much can depend on the individual bird, however in this case? I've heard similar things about the Lavender Orpington as well. In my own experience, when If a friendly, docile flock is what you're after, I'd strongly recommend Cochin chickens, or even Bantam Cochin. They're by far the sweetest chickens I've ever had, and they even seem to enjoy being held by the kids! If it's lots of eggs + gentle, I'd look at Buff Orpington or, if you have the space, Jersey Giants. Jersey's are big and calm! Although, all of the Buff Orpington chickens that I have personally owned, have been complete sweethearts. In my own opinion, it seems like the specialty colors of established breeds can have...."attitude" as my Wildlife Biologist Father would say!

I thought about looking into Cochins but haven't yet, next on my list now. This is my first flock and I want it to be full of pretty birds with pretty colored eggs 😁 I also love my guineas and I'm going to get a variety of them too. I've waited 11 years to finally be in a place to have chickens so I've been researching breeds, feather colors, egg color, and temperament for months. I have a 2 and 4 year old and we all love to hold and pet them so I need friendly birds! Thanks for the tip on "attitude" birds, my Jubilees definitely fit that rule.

My Jubilee Orpington hen from My Pet Chicken is super friendly and very chill. While breeds have overall characteristics it is important to remember that each chicken is an individual and they have their own personality.

Chicken math also includes subtraction if necessary.

My lavender orpington from my pet chicken is the rock of my tribe. Solid and calm at all times Hattie is the oldest of my hens. I personally have had great success with these two orpingtons. Much of the rest of my birds are high energy hens. The two orpingtons provide sanity.

My cookie is just the sweetest little thing. She’s actually the lowest in the pecking order because she’s so docile… I have all docile chickens though so there’s no bullying with her. She’s a little shy but very sweet and talkative!

They're beautiful, as well as kind! 😊 Thankfully, life offers infinite variety and color, and your hens are a wonderful example of that. Thank you for sharing!
