I don't think they start rubbing until fall, when the velvet starts to shed. All other deer on the camera seem normal. First time I've seen such a thing.

Ha, finally! My first encounter with a bear was in person, but it was a youngster, thankfully, and in broad daylight, almost the identical location, too. Maybe it's the same bear, just more grown up? Glad I did not make a late night trek to the barn as we do sometimes! This gate is in our perimeter fence that divides our main property from our pasture lot and is located pretty much right behind the chicken barn.

I have never seen a bear here but know they are around. They do have a hunting season and allow a number of bears to be taken but usually the quota is filled fast.

Me, too, Anne! Now, if I could just catch that mountain lion on camera that I know is around here, I'd be happy! And more skeered!
