I see this gal most every night.

We set this camera up and captured this picture the night after one of our chickens was attacked - and never found. Bob cat or small cougar. Was not expecting this! Since then, there have been no further losses.

If it is a bobcat most likely it will be back. I had one several years ago kill some birds. It didn't come back the next night but did the following night and I caught it in a trap. It killed 14 birds.

I think I see striping/coloring in the back legs (not the plant that is obviously there). From that photo, I'm going with bobcat. Could be wrong, of course. Maybe you'll get a better photo later. Usually, they are more of a threat to chickens than a cougar would be. My friend used to live in Oregon and had a cougar going through her yard regularly. The cat completely ignored her chickens every time. Bobcats, on the other hand, are super stealthy and can even sneak up on the most wary rooster. Same friend, after moving to Kentucky, lost a 12 lb rooster right off her front porch to what I believe was a bobcat. No other roosters even alarmed, not even the one who was snatched, not one feather left anywhere. Coyotes, they were all familiar with, as well as foxes, and always set up a ruckus, but the cat was an unusual visitor. And one was sighted down the road from her around the same time. Such a silent predator and so hard to even spot.

I agree, the coloring from the image is why I think bobcat.
