We don't get a lot of coyotes around here, but I have found the most effective deterrent for predators like dogs and foxes is an electric wire at fox nose height.

How about Goannas? someone posted on the duck thread about one getting her ducklings. We have alot of preds, I am still trying to make up my mind about what trail camera to buy after my Bushnell lasted only 3 years.Ha ha - I did see a coyote once - in Melbourne Zoo!
We have the local coyote analogue, the Dingo, but they are not a problem around here.

So the coyote came back and got your Rooster Lucky? Our first coyote experience: One morning about 10:30 I heard a commotion. I looked out the front door to see one of my roosters walking down the street toward our house, fussing the whole way. Our chickens never go in the street! When I went outside, there were two of my neighbors in the street. They called me over and told me that a coyote came running out of our driveway with the rooster in its mouth! When it got to the street and saw them, it was startled and let go of the rooster. The rooster was unharmed, just very angry. Sadly, though, he was the planned dessert. Our other rooster, named Lucky due to surviving a hawk attack in childhood, wasn't so lucky that day.
Later on at about 1:30 p.m. I saw all the chickens suddenly run to the front of the yard. I ran outside (without shotgun, darn it). There was that coyote at the back gate. The only thing close at hand was a rake. Like a dummy, I grabbed the rake and gave chase. Of course, he disappeared.
Like CMOM, we have neighbors who lost several goats to a coyote and ended up shooting one, hopefully the one that came to our house.
It was quite a few months later that we caught a coyote on our game cam one night. We have never seen one during the daytime hours since that first one.
I have previously posted the picture, but here he/she is again -

No, he got Lucky first. Danny, the one walking down the road, was obviously planned to be dessert.
Yep - Goannas are fierce predators. They would have no problem taking poultry, and they can climb anything. How about Goannas? someone posted on the duck thread about one getting her ducklings. We have lizards but thank goodness none that big here in the mountains, But Fla has them and other parts of USA.
