With prey animals, predators are sure to follow. Had a pair of eastern coyotes move in 2 years ago. Hasn't stopped the deer from foraging in our woods & giving birth here. I've had a coyote & deer cross paths within minutes of each other in the middle of the night. Deer are pretty good at evasive maneuvers, I've figured out. True though, they won't always get away. That's nature, that's life.

Yep, I was surprised it survived the frigid winter we had. I got another pic of a coyote with a full coat this spring in same spot. Could've been its mate, I suppose. :/

I have suspected a raccoon lurking around for quite a while, finally got a picture. Our chicken coop is very secure, I think it was tested by a raccoon last year. My question is how common is it to see just one? Once this one is gone I of course intend to watch for more, but with just one in the photo wondering if that is odd.

My belief - if there's one, there's more! There may be others around, they just didn't get caught in the camera's range or showed up yet. I had one in my chicken yard one night that became 3 coons by the next week.

I have had problems with owls. Now I have some of my runs covered with netting and since I have covered them haven't lost any birds out of them. Not long ago I lost 2 out of one of the pens I haven't covered yet. For the sizes of my pens the netting isn't cheap. I have 4 pens covered and 6 still not covered. I have gotten an owl on video on my camera feasting on a bird. It is in one of the previous posts.

That sucks cmom! I'm battling a fox right now. Extremely brazen. I stepped out my back door to see it grab a young bird from about 8' from my dog! So much for my dogs being deterrents. :/ No free ranging for awhile.

Generally speaking you can discharge a firearm less than 500 feet from a dwelling, farm building or occupied structure if you own, lease, are an immediate family member, an employee or have the owners consent in NYS. Public buildings and those you don't own is another matter you must be further than 500 feet unless you are hunting waterfowl and shoot in a direction that is greater than 500 feet from the dwelling. Shooting across a road or highway is also prohibited and, unless you're handicap, you must be off the right-of-way.
